Not buying it. You need to provide some basis for your contention that USC's defense is the best in the country. Aside from a shut out of Auburn, USC's results indicate a very good offense. But the defense? A mediocre Cal team put a 34 spot on them and beat them to boot. Hawaii scored 32 on them. Hawaii!! Please, don't pull a CottonBowl'66 on us. On what are you basing this?
USC should NOT be #2 right now, Everyone makes such a big deal about them but if they play Oklahoma, OU will kill them, Ohio State and Florida State will most likely lose and LSU will end up playing Miami which is a game i would love to watch, Nevertheless even though LSU is the best competition probably for Oklahoma, they wont get the chance because of the gay BCS. :lsug:
the reason for the fuss is every conf. has won the bcs champ outside the pac 10 . if usc wins the national champ it will make the bcs look like heros... this my friend is a conspiracy.
Following this thread as a huge tiger fan in Los Angeles, I would like to offer my two cents. LSU is exceptional and this is the best team they have ever had since I've been a fan(25 years), but SC is right there with them. These teams are so similar as well which is why I'd love to see them play in the sugar some how. A few observations: Discipline oriented head coaches with great defensive minds and NFL backgrounds. Young, loaded backfields with runners of contrasting stlyes- LSU- Vincent, Broussard, and Edwards. Top Backs in LA last 2 years and all 3 top 15 nationally. USC- Bush, White, Dennis. These guys can bring it as well. Bush top back in CA last year, all 3 top 20 nationally. The 2 Best wide receiveng cores in the country- LSU- Clayton, Henderson, Green with 3 talented freshman Hill, Bowe and Davis USC- Williams, Colbert. No one like Green which is why are wr's are #1. Freshman Whitney Lewis and Steve Smith. Lewis was the consensus #1 of all players in the country (like Doucet this year), and Smith was a top ten wr nationally last year. Probably the two best defensive lines in the country as well deep, experienced offensive lines. A wealth of high school talent in their own backyards which they seem to have locked up (consensus top 3 classes this year). As long as Saban and Carroll stay, these teams will be pre-season top ten every year. The pac 10 is not so strong this year but SC is very good. I think there is only one team that can beat them- THE FIGHTIN TIGERS OF LSU. Side note- first time post, long time reader. Want to thank all the posters for help keeping tiger fans on the west coast in touch.
Good post Cali Tiger. Since you're based in SoCal, you're probably in a position to hear/read alot about Reggie Bush and the development of Booty. Is Bush the real deal? He's looked progressively better all season long from the limited observations we can get here in the east.
Booty climbed up to #2 on the depth chart, played a couple series in the ASU game, but has not played since. The coaches are really high on him but Leinart is doing so well (better than Palmer up to this point last year) and he has more experience. Reggie Bush is great- real fast and can cut on a dime- he'll be their feature back for the next few years. White is a Broussard type and will get a lot of carries also. I thought SC would need a year to get qb experience but this kid has played well and they upgraded at almost every position from a #2 or 3 finish last year.
