The Army lowered their admission standards considerably during the earlier years of the Iraq War when recruitment slowed after spiking after 9/11. Don't know if this is directly related but was the first thing that came to mind when I read the story.
No anyone who believes this had a chance at success is sck. If you imply that it isn't sick to try to kill the President whoever it may be is SICK. Whether or not I agree will the president's plans opinion or philosophy you make a change by winning elections and replacing him or her by orderly succession.
