Re: DC Watch: John Chavis That definitely does sound like a done deal. However things that sound done sometimes are not. I'll be happier when it's official. Not the aggressive DC many wanted but he does have a proven track record of success in the SEC. I think he can do really good things with LSU's talent.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis It's interesting how some of these news reports characterize Chavis' D: John Chavis, whose attacking defenses were the backbone of some of Tennessee's best teams under Phillip Fulmer, is trading Rocky Top for the Bayou. --Chris Low, ESPN (LINK) The man behind Tennessee's aggressive defense has an agreement in principle to head up Louisiana State University's defense, ESPN reports --WBIR-TV (NBC), Knoxville, TN (LINK) Chavis, who was an aggressive, blitzing coordinator at Tennessee for the past 15 seasons, said he recently turned down the Clemson defensive coordinator post and has spoken to LSU coach Les Miles. --Glenn Guilbeau, Gannett News (LINK)
Re: ESPN reporting John Chavis the new LSU Defensive Coordinator! Yay! Just saw this rolling along on the bottomline of the papajohns.com bowl. Great choice!
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis Glenn Guilbeau has wanted LSU to get Chavis from the beginning: Dec 3 -- No shift on LSU defense. Mallory, Peveto still co-coordinators for Tiger defense....Meanwhile, John Chavis, Tennessee's defensive coordinator since 1995, is suddenly looking for a job. Chavis, a blitz specialist who has had some of the best defenses in the SEC during his career, has not been retained by new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin. --Glenn Guilbeau (LINK) Dec 2 -- LSU should order some Chavis with a blitz chaser. Former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis is hot, he's available, he's known for the blitz and he is Southeastern Conference aged. LSU coach Les Miles needs to act quickly and try to hire the 52-year-old Chavis as soon as possible ... Chavis had been Tennessee's defensive coordinator since 1995, and through most of those years the Vols had among the best defenses in the SEC. He is also known as a blitz bandit. The blitz is his answer to everything, and his blitzes come from every area of the field. The blitz has been a problem at LSU for most of the last four seasons, particularly this season. Chavis knows the SEC. He cut his teeth going against the master - Steve Spurrier when he was at Florida. ... What Miles should do is hire Chavis --Glenn Guilbeau (LINK)
:geaux: I'm happy, welcome to Tigertown Chief!!! This is the guy I wanted LSU to get all along, but I won't feel it's a totally done deal until it comes out of CLM's mouth. Hopefully it's just a formality and timing issue as far as when it's "officially" announced. Great choice for the Tigers! :LSU231:
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis Aw man, just when I was starting to get excited about getting Chavis you had to go and ruin it for me!!!!
