Re: DC Watch: John Chavis That's the arrogance part I am talking about. He thought this staff just won a NC so these guys can handle being DC, when obviously there were signs of the defense tailing off last year.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis Laziness had nothing to do with it. The Board of Directors, the Athletic Department, TAF, promiment boosters -- all of them knew replacing Pelini was a priority and treated it as such. LSU football brings in tens of millions of $ for LSU. You're nuts if you think we just got stuck with Mallveto out of laziness.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis i wouldnt say arrogance. id say his faith and trust was misplaced. goes back to that too loyal thing. i think he knows now. now if he could just learn from that playing the seniors thing just because they are seniors, id feel even better.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis Either we thought it was a good idea to do the Mallveto thing, or we couldn't get anyone that we thought was better. Either way, you know that the Board of Directors, Athletic Department, TAF, etc. all had a say in it.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis I certainly don't believe it was the latter. It was just a horrendous decision by Les Miles. I think he pushed for it when others probably told him we needed to look elsewhere. That's how I think it went down. You have a head coach who just guided your university to a national championship, he obviously was going to be given some leeway in the decision making process.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis I agree that playing the senior thing is rather aggravating. Curtis Taylor should not have seen the field barring injury to McCray. I think that is part of the Michigan Man thing.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis And it hurt us in 2006 also. Brokedown versions of Broussard and Vincent played when they had no business being out on the field. I just don't see him ever changing when it comes to that sort of thing. Sadly.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis Would you give him leeway just because he won a national championship? I wouldn't. Sure, I'd listen to him and what has to say, but I'd also do my own thinking and I'd also be considering the opinions of others. You don't have to be a national championship-winning football coach to feel confident in your opinion on who our next DC should be. Miles is allowed to call the shots in the day-to-day operation of running our football program, and that may or may not include the final decision on who our $400,000-a-year DC is. But even if it was ultimately Miles' decision, he was still told by the power-brokers want they wanted. Maybe they wanted Mallveto and Miles went along with it. Maybe Miles wanted Mallveto against their objections... and if that's the case, you know that there is no way Miles goes against their objections this time. But that is all assuming we give Miles the ultimate authority to hire/fire the coaches that LSU pays -- maybe we do, maybe we don't. Even if we do give him the authority, there is always way to veto him if the opposition on the Board of Directors, etc is strong enough.
Re: DC Watch: John Chavis "Maybe Miles wanted Mallveto against their objections" That is my best guess. He has much less leeway than at this time last season.
