I don't remember, when did we know that Pellini was gong to Nebraska? It appears there was ample time to do a DC search/interviews prior to the BCS game, unless Miles was hoping for Michigan to come through.
There seems to be plenty of interest from other proven DCs this year. What is different.
Maybe Miles realized the gravity of the situation when he saw the stadium more than half empty by half time at the Troy game.

If we hired JC as our DC, it'd be easier on our fans. When the opponent connects on a 40 yard TD pass to a wide open receiver, we'd have every right to holler this: Jesus Christ! What are you doing?

The official hire date announcement was December 2, 2007 although I suspect Les and Skip knew before then that Bo would be going to Lincoln.

Maybe. Or maybe he was just indecisive and didn't want to choose one over the other.

After coming off a NC year, there is no one on here who can convince me we could not get someone big time for the DC heading into 08.

I think Les felt like we would run a very similiar scheme as Pelini, thus reduce the learning curve going into Spring. He wasn't lazy, he just made a horrible judgement.

les wanted to reward 2 guys, one being a close friend, for what he thought were integral parts in winning a NC.

maybe they were but it was in much different roles.

les probably didnt think the roles were significantly different and rewarded his 2 buds.

but there was so much indecision and confusion there was no way to salvage that defense.

there is no defense regarding that defense. ugh

I don't believe that for one minute. Paul Rhoads went to Auburn from Pitt this year. Will Muschamp went from Auburn to Texas. I think it was some laziness and arrogance after winnning a NC. The coach did not have to be out of a job to lure them to LSU like many act. Miles obviously didn't spend enough time looking for replacement and settled for Mallory and Peveto.

once again, he didnt settle. he thought they were up for the job and was wrong.

at least not in unison with each other. who knows if only one was assigned the head gig if things would have been different. its unlikely.

Since neither were even adequate position coaches I doubt either were up to the task of solo DC.
