I will add this, again I have no concrete reason like many here on why a certain candidate should be here.
BUT I get the feeling LSU fans will have a selective memory when it comes to Nick Saban next few season. They wont remember OR. ST, or UAB, or UGA or some of Nicks failures. So I want a coach who can stand up to it. Can Petrino do it ??? Well he did this week when the clueless Louisville fans were unloading 50 cals at him for simply talking to someone. Del Rio is an unknown. we are at a critical time in LSU football. We can be like a Miami where some coach picks up the ball and runs with it, or we fumble.
On Tedford, all of the comments are true, but remember Saban was pounded by Dinardo's team. Dont judge to much on how they performed, give someone the wealth of LSU and things can happen.

Anyway, I am pulling for Petrino, I could be dead dead wrong, but thats just my opinion. No matter who it is I hope LSU fans remember even our sainted Saban had his ups and downs...

Very possible. Also meshes with the quote in today's advocate from a member of the Board of Supervisors that a new coach would be named "withing four to five days." and with Dandy Don's source who told him a new coach could be named as soon as Monday.

JDR was the prime candidate, Petrino the fallback.

Good point Tejas. It does seem strange that we would fly to Jacksonville in hopes of interviewing Del Rio. You would think they would know that he will meet with them before they got on the plane.

one obvious point Ill make is that the rumors are a coach will be named very soon fwiw and if our crew is in JAX then how would it be someone else if we are that interested in JDR?

I sure hope most of this is true and we land him.

Petrino & Del Rio are my top 2 ever since I started looking at each's record and information.

Good point about Nick - people will surely forget about the Saban mishaps and if our new coach doesn't perform fans will be quick to say how god-like Saban was.

Nick was different, even when he lost

Nick Saban has a manner (and I think it's actually the truth) that he knows what he's doing and knows where the failure is even when things are bad. I never once worried about it when we lost, because I realized that it would be someone else, not Nick, falling down on the job. I also knew that the week after a failure, the person responsible would either shape up or ship out.

I don't know why, but I think the quality Nick has is very rare. A lot of coaches seem to be sort of bewildered and clueless when things go bad, or get easily rattled. Frankly I was shocked at how easily Bob Stoops began to act childish during the run-up to the Sugar Bowl last year, or how Pete Carroll whined like a girl when he didn't get into the Sugar Bowl. Nick never did such a thing. He is in control, steady, sure. That's what I'll miss. I don't know if he can be replaced because I don't know too many others with that quality. Belicheck is probably one.

definitely always an interest in ferentz. no talk of him makes him the likely candidate. find someone you hear nothing of yet would be a good hire. it will be one of those.

Kirk is not coming here and if he did he would be another Saban talking to every NFL team that calls....

    Also one last comment.
    Nebraska....
Top 5 team for years, hero coach leaves, Has a pretty good coach who gets them places but fans are clamouring for the old coach, then they hire an NFL head coach and they flat out suck...
    Remember Nebraska...
