I don't know what it is about some of the guys on this board - and other boards as well. Who cares if the guy has 8 posts. Because you don't have hundreds of posts does'nt make you less credible - it may instead make you more credible. There are plenty fans (myself included) who read this board daily but hardly ever post. He may be right - we'll see.
Jack Del Rio would be one of the better coaches out there that I have heard. Positives: 1) ties to Louisiana (wife from La; daughter @ LSU); possible long term tenure with no aspiration to go back to the NFL. 2) defensive minded coach (good one at that too). 3) coaches with intensity 4) young 5) ties to the NFL and contacts. This would be a good recruiting tool (being a head coach in the NFL). Negatives: 1) no college coaching experience. 2) no recruiting experience. 3) questionable motivation ploys on his part (axe and stuff) I think the positives outweigh the negatives. As far as the questionable motivational tactics, those are things he may do at the NFL level with grown men but not at a college level (perhaps he's learned from his mistakes here as well). As mentioned above, hopefully he would keep the staff intact to retain some of the excellent recruiters we have on staff. I kind of like JDR as a coach over a Petrino. Being a head coach means being a good manager. The unknowns would be how is he at maintaining discipline and control of the team. One huge plus about Saban is that we didn't hear about any bar brawls or football players gettin in trouble while he was here (besides Shyrone selling SB tickets). I also read somewhere that Del Rio had a second interview? This would back up this rumor if it were true. If we don't get a big name like Del Rio or a Spurrier etc. I'm still in favor of giving Jimbo a shot.
I've heard a few of the "incidents" about Del Rio. I didn't much care for the tool gig. However as much as I've read about each candidate it seems as though you can find unflattering information about the holiest of coaches if you dig deep enough. It's not enough to sway me away.
Hey, I guess since Del Rio is a USC grad, he might be able to arrange a game vs the Condoms--I mean, Trojans. Should this rumor be true of course...
"Un-confirmed rumor"... Isn't that a bit redundant? If it were confirmed, it wouldn't be a rumor...right? Anyway, I hope you're right. We'll see.
exactly, I have a million posts and I spew nothing but total BS. point well made.... :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
This just goes to show that whomever Skip hires, there will be a small contigent of fans unhappy. JDR is a name about as big as they come. His record on defense is second to none. He has coached successfully at the highest level, but he would have trouble convincing recruits to join his team?? This is no flame at all, but just proves to me that any coach with the possible exception of Bill Bellicheck himself would have naysayers.
College coaches *typically, (or maybe just quite often) don't do well as NFL head coaches. Is there someone somebody can think of that was a good NFL head coach and coached college as well? It seems to me that if you can be a good NFL head coach, you should be able to be a good college coach as long as you can recruit. Del Rio has been successfull wherever he's been on the football field - College player, NFL player, various coordinator positions, and NFL head coach. I see no reason that this trend wouldn't continue.
i picked the jags to make the playoffs before the season just based on del rio. it was unthinkable but can still happen. i think he is a helluva coach. his teams play great d usually and both sides play hard.
