lsu-i-like and Red, please help me understand your position here. Both of you keep saying that there has been bloodshed in the name of Christianity. We all agree that this happened generations ago, right? So are you arguing that the Muslims now have the right to some sort of reparations here? Every time they bomb another bus or shopping center (which happens almost every day, no exaggerating), we should just say, "well, people we didn't know thousands of years ago were violent in the name of their religion, so I guess it's their turn now"?
You don't understand my position at all, perhaps you should go back and read them. Position One-- I think any group of employees should be able to vote on their own holidays without regard to their religion or anything else. Position Two-- MM's statement that Islam is warlike, not like gentle Judaism and Christianity, is historically insupportable. Period. Where on earth do you get some off-the-wall, damn-fool notion that I'm advocating Muslim "reparations"? Don't ever put words in my mouth. I state my positions very clearly here.
Possibly WWII. I don't know if Rome was against us when we went into Afghanistan, but I imagine that action is arguably defendable in terms of the just war theory. I was referring to just war in terms of Mastermind's statement that Islam was founded amidst warfare. I was not defending the acts of terrorists that claim Islam as their religion. I imagine it has been done, I haven't looked to deeply into this. I do wonder if Fox propaganda network would report on this if it did happen. I think the point was that Jesus is portrayed as a pacifist while Muhammad rose to prominence amidst warfare.
Red, I understood your points, but not where you were coming from, which is why I asked. I did not think neither you nor lsu-i-like were advocating reparations, which is why I wanted clarification. I enjoy sharing ideas with both of you and try to keep the discourse civil. My apologies if it seemed as though I was putting words in your mouth, as that was not my intent. Finally, I need to learn how to work that multi-quote button.
It's really handy. Just click the multi-quote button on each post that you want then when you click on the quote button, all of the quotes will appear in the dialog box.
Remember when unions, the ACLU, and elected officials used to do things that were good for this country? If you answer "yes"...please explain it to your grandchildren (if you can remember that far back) and don't forget to take your Geritol.
Tyson has decided it will have both the labor day holiday and the Muslim holiday. I take it the chicken giant got some flack from their previous decision to scrap labor day.
Don't be silly. Why are these judged according to what they say and not according to how their actions conform to their respective writings? "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it". Those who followed the teachings of Christ were not invaders or murderers. Again, judge who are Muslim or Christian according to how their actions conform to the Koran or the Holy Bible. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." - Galations 5:22-25 (NIV)
