So a longstanding, time-honored, even revered, American holiday is pushed by the wayside in favor of an obscure muslim holiday and you don't have a problem with that?

It's the hypocrisy that bothers me the most.

I wonder (maybe I'm paranoid) what Muslims would do if they ever made up a large enough caucus to effect state or federal legislation. Is this a preview? They put this into effect in a chicken plant the second they had the majority.

Also, shame on Tyson. This is very close to my hometown of Winchester, TN. The word on the street is that Tyson brings these folks over by the busload. There are many locals that have applied to work here. I know this is second hand rumor and probably shouldn't write this, it's just a little too close to home.

Is it obscure? I don't know if it is or not. Regardless, the worker's union pushed for this. Tyson didn't simply decide they would try to satiate Islam and the touchy-feelies.

The same as any other group, I imagine.

This is a different subject and I don't necessarily disagree. While Tyson may be helping truly poor folks in Africa (and keeping their costs down), it is at the expense of US workers.

You really made your case with that one.:rolleye33:

Why does it matter to you which holiday a worker's union that isn't anti-Muslim chooses?

I know you are not talking to me here, but I must ask...do you not think that a different level of skepticism should be applied to Muslims?

I have a hard time caring about the holiday traditions of people that want me to die. I know how "un-American" that sounds, but reality trumps reason on this one to me. They do not care about you, this country nor your rights and traditions. You are an "infidel" and should die.

How many more people do they need to kill to convince me that Islam is a religion of peace? I'm convinced.

Terrorists that claim Islam are not representative of Muslims anymore than crazy kooks that bomb abortion clinics are representative of Christianity.

I won't deny there are mislead Muslims, but Christianity does not have a clean rap-sheet either.

NOTE: I am not really opposed to profiling and I realize that terrorists that claim Islam would like to see Americans die.

I understand and even admire your compassion here for not wanting to lump everyone together.

However, when I hear this argument, my B.S. detector (which is flawed from time to time) goes crazy.

The frequency and severity of terrorism acts under the guise of Christianity are not an apples to apples comparison to the daily acts carried out against the "infidel" on behalf of Islam. You also rarely see any person of significance from the Muslim community coming out in a public decrying of these events.

Plus, just refer to their Sharia laws and you can see what they believe. Sharia law is not some outskirt of Islam, it's mainstream.

I wish I could be more compassionate here. I just know that all the hope, smiles and sunshine in the world will not make these folks think that I am any less of an infidel and worthy of breath on this planet.

Which makes me agree to your point on profiling. I hope that the Bedford County police are seeking as much knowledge about Islam as they can, so they can sniff out trouble before it starts.
