It's understandable from Mathieu's end. I keep trying to see the upside for Les and LSU to let him do this, and just can't come up with anything given the huge risk involved.
Well, here's my take on that angle. The only way it comes out good for LSU is if...and this is a HUGE if...Mathieu is able to make it thru the year at LSU as just a student, then rejoin the team, and make it thru the year as a student/athlete...without one single hiccup. And to be honest, it might even require TWO years of student/athlete. Say what you will, but it WOULD be a good story...if, and only if...
I agree with this. I'm surprised Miles and LSU are considering it. Maybe they aren't but I have to think they are and that's what is delaying the announcement about where he'll transfer. Would he really be sitting on his hands rather than transferring if he knew there was no chance at LSU?
Agreed. Season starts in less than three weeks. If he can transfer and play now, it seems he'd be gone to get acclimated to whatever defensive scheme he encounters. To be fair, the scheme would have to acclimate to him as well. But I guess I'm of a different opinion. If in the end it's really about the NFL and dollars, then sit out the year. Fix the neck up portion of Tyrann. Show some conviction. Then re-join the team. Hell, even if he transfers, he should consider sitting and fixing himself before making football such a priority.
The so-called meeting between Miles and Mathieu, despite reports by the Times-Picayune that Miles had advised Mathieu that it was "time to move on with his career rather than trying to return to the team in 2013" was not true. Michael Bonnette the sports info director at LSU spoke with Miles following the release of the story and Miles said the information published was not true and that Miles hadn't even met with Mathieu. And so it goes........
