Well said. I wish I could remember the stats on how he was used on defense, but as I remember if you add rushing the passer which I believe was like 15% of his def plays and nickel back, you ended up close to 50%. That pretty much tells me what the coaches thought his strength was...free lancing as opposed to assigned pass coverage. You know that final little safety value switch that should kick in after "I don't think this is right for me to do this" which is in effect, "I will be letting down my team", a lot of guys these days simply don't have that....Janzen Jackson didn't have it at Tenn....hell even Bobby Petrino didn't have it at Arkansas...TM didn't eithr

random thoughts: he was a game changer. i'll miss his play. kids so often think they can beat the system, even after getting caught. so sad, but i respect coaches who live "integrity first". i wish him the best, but he just lost a whole bunch of money. hope some of the young talent is ready to step up their game.

If people think this just creep-ed up on Les and the staff, they are wrong. Look at how many DB's were taken in the last class. They know when something must be done. Last year we lost Josh D. right before the first game(This one was early, better now than during the season), someone will step up. They always do. TM7 (Ok TM) played as a TF, look at the others that have played their first year at LSU. The great thing about LSU is the front line, the 4 down linemen and the 4 backups. Pressure on the QB is what helps a DB more than anything. The 4 backups at LSU could start for 90% of the college teams. I like the early games as to getting players in and ready to play. I think we'll be ok.

Agreed. That aTm Cotton Bowl game was the best secondary I've ever seen and I recall pointing out to my buddy that with Mo and Patrick Peterson at corner we forced 4 turnovers by defensive backs yet all came from three guys (Simon, Reid, and Tyrann) who were true freshmen at the time. Those guys stepped up. Jalen Collins and others have an opportunity.

I just recently watched the induction of Curtis Martin into the HOF. He said something Parcells told him made him play through most anything, "Remember now, Boy Wonder, whenever you come out of the huddle, you never know who is going into the huddle." Time to see who goes into the defensive huddle for LSU.

I agree. I'm glad that CLM did the right thing, but it is REALLY hard when you have to let a talent like TM go. This team is still head and shoulders above all the rest this year (IHMO) but it's hard to lose this type of player. I feel bad for TM too as he must be struggling just from reading his tweets in the ESPN write-up (see DandyDon.com for link.)

Reminds me a great Pantera song.

Although this site that follows all of the players twitter some on the team seem pretty upset.

I'm gonna have to guess that's not something Big Sam was referencing.

    LSU student newspaper:

"He's probably one of the most exciting players you could hope to watch," said incoming LSU freshman Danielle Tate. "I was so excited to come here, start college and go to the games and watch him play. That chance is gone."

Tate also said her phone was "blowing up" after the noon announcement.

In a rare silent spell, Mathieu's account was dormant in the hours following his dismissal, but his likely replacement at punt returner, Odell Beckham Jr., tweeted "Honor that brotha #7.," and "Deep cuts take time to heal but when they do heal they turn into beautiful scars tht ull rememeber [sic] forever."

His absence may not leave a scar on a loaded LSU team, but Tiger fans will likely remember the Badger's brief era forever.

(that was the last sentence of the article)
