This dead horse has been beaten so long... that I thought everyone had followed every thud. I posted a couple of days ago that the remarks grew out of a recruiting incident, and that's the truth.
2 points First, this article was written by "From staff and wire reports" meaning it was taken directly from a wire report and adapted for use in the paper. Second, it contains the same information as the links used here to The Advocate(?), a Louisiana paper, meaning THAT is the source of the Tusc. News article. So, what does this mean? There is nothing new in this report! you guys are really grasping for any straw to make this situation worse...
It doesn't matter what francis's issue was. He handle it in a bad way. He made a program that was looking bad look even worse on national TV. He represents the bama nation and he made it look classless.
HSV, if it's about recruiting then please give the details. Cite a source. Give us a reference that's on the record. Saban went on the record. Franchione hasn't done so. Saban clearly stated in his press conference that Franchione was upset because of the internet hoax speech. All this talk that it was about something else is just hopeful speculation until someone steps up with evidence. Refusing to shake hands was a calculated insult to Saban and LSU. And all over a takeoff from the movie "Meatballs" that was an obvious spoof. It wasn't a smart move, it just made Franchione look petty and unsportmanlike after a major win. LSU will have more than "locker-room material" to consider when it plays Bama next year. Perhaps Franchione doesn't think that Bama football will be around next year.
Glen, do you know any details of the recruiting incident? Just curious. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised to hear that as Saban often preaches positive recruiting. All of our players that I have read articles on after their signing with us have agreed with that statement. He seems to be appealing to academic support, success in life, facilities and the like. I'm not calling you a liar at all but Saban did say he (Fran) was obviously upset about the article. I know nobody here knows the real story but this is the first I have heard on negative recruiting. Hopefully thats not the case, one of coach Saban's best attributes is he always shows class.
I think this particular case was one where our coach was mad that there was no press release stating that the postgame speech never occurred. The internet reports all stated that it was created by an imposter/comic, but Saban never spoke directly to the press in any way about it until after the game. I guess CDF took that as a lack of consideration or and endorsement. Don't think I agree with either of those stances, but that appears to be what he felt. As for recruiting? I have heard nothing. I also think that there is no coach in the country who has not used the "Alabama won't be playing football, they'll be shut down in a year, they won't be competitive in a year, their coach will be gone" slant on players looking at both schools. Do I think it's wrong? Not really. Do I think it is unfair? A little. Do I think it is cheap or cheating? Not really. It's called recruiting for a reason! Each coach is trying to get the best players to come to his school. It is a sales pitch, a campaign speech and a begging session all in one. Coaches have to use any means possible to get their players. I don't think there is much to all of this stuff and suspect we the fans and the media are making a bigger issue out of it than the coaches.
Guys, I was there. I didn't leave in the third quarter and it looked like they shook hands before the altercation started. Right, wrong or indifferent. There must be two sides to make an argument. My coach had an issue he felt he needed to settle, maybe we don't agree with the way he went about it. But im sure you wouldn't like to be continuously hammered about issues that happened 3 years ago that you had nothing to do with. Even if they didn't shake hands, it's not the first time that has happened. There are a few hands here I wouldn't shake but many I would. Coach Fran also refuses to call Auburn by its name but calls it that school down the road. And he calls Tennessee that school to the north. Yes both of those are disrespectful but both of those schools have disrespected us too just like you are now.
Btider, screw francis! Go Hell Ole Miss! I really don't think I could say that enough. Screw francis.
Skrayper...this is for you Check the link... Francis realizes it's a hoax after making an ass of himself... yeah.....who knows jack??
