Nonsense, we're all better off when individuals act in their own rational self-interest. Maybe read, or read again, Ayn Rand's "The Virtue of Selfishness". Maybe throw in "The Fountainhead" if you have time. Viva Yo! I would add, as a Libertarian, government still taxes everyone too much, and spends way too much. 'Redistributing wealth' hurts way more than helps. And the 'help' is mostly to politicians and their cronies. A mighty big helping.
Until it does.....there’s no one around to bail us out. There’s no telling when it will happen but it will. It could be 1 year or 20. When it happens it will be quick.
@Frogleg theres a smidgin of truth to your comment. However the country has alway depended on some collective action to grow and thrive. I’ve read enough of Rand to understand her philosophy is as much a fantasy as Marx’s or Hitler’s. Only a free market and strong and fair legal system in a representative government allows individuals to thrive while limiting bad actors. We have been made stronger by standing together. In many ways we need government reined in and the cronyism reduced. However if we only think of ourselves we are only as strong as the weakest link and will fracture.
This is all in an individual's rational self interest. It does not conflict with Objectivism, or Voluntarism if you will.
Ultimately any rational man is going to do the action that he perceives is in the best interest of him and his. To do otherwise would be both naive and insane.
