not what the pentagon said...not what members of the Senate Armed Services Committee said either. In fact, only Trump seems to know that this was coming.

its not a rhetorical question. it is meant for an answer.

but you are right, we cannot make an informed decision. we only know we hate trump and everything he does is wrong. you dont understand the middle east. you only know trump cant be right.

how long do we need to stay before its not "abandoning our allies"? 10 years? 100?

it is rhetorical because you know that we do not have an answer. we are not in a position to make an informed decision about how long we should be there. if we were diplomats or military brass who knew all the ins and outs your question could be meant for an answer. however, asking a bunch of guys on a chat forum is rhetorical because you know that we have no way of knowing.

those are your words, not mine. i support trump when i think he is right. i have supported his stance China's currency manipulation and stealing intellectual property rights.

    do you?

rhetorical based upon my argument above

its not a rhetorical question, and in fact you have answered it by claiming we need to stay for longer. your claim is that trump is wrong. your making that claim is an implicit claim that we need to stay. but do we? why? how long?

no, its very complex and there are many factions and motivations. almost no one can anticipate what will happen, or figure out the morally correct move. how much are we responsible to protect the world? they cannot protect themselves? are they even really our responsibility? and the kurds even really people that we should invest in, protect and trust? they are muslims. muslims can be quite shittty.

I had to take a few days off because I’m really disappointed that so many tried to mask the overnight betrayal of an allied people on a dictator’s (Erdogan) whim as a strategic decision based on thoughtful analysis by Trump. As I said you should look into your souls and so called Christian beliefs.....yeah I’m still pissed.
However there are points to be made. @Jmg you asked how long. I don’t know but Monday wasn’t the right time. I’ll ask you why was it so important to do it in the middle of the night with no notice? Was sacrificing a people and honor to move a few troops a good decision? These troops were not bearing the brunt of the fighting; the Kurds were. They were a tripwire to prevent exactly what is happening now.
To all who have callously written off who knows how many innocent lives to defend a president who has no honor no morals and no conscience I don’t know what to say. You truly disappoint me. I thought you were better than this.

    It wasn't overnight though.

Secondly, if you don't know when the right time is, how can you say Monday was the wrong time? Doesn't compute.

    Lastly, the Kurds aren't innocent.

My support of removing our guys has zero to do with who the president is and everything to do with a realization that we have spilled way to much american blood in the ME. No change will come from our presence there.

So when is the right time? Those people have been fighting each other for a thousand years and will keep fighting each other for another thousand years. In this case they are mercenaries. They would have been killing each other whether we supported them or not but they were glad to take our money and our weapons. Unlike other countries where we maintain armed forces like Korea they have no interest in changing and creating a democratic form of government. They are of no value to us as anything other than mercenaries. In the middle east there are many different sides to every conflict. The only thing they have in common is that none of them are on our side.
