1. No, red, I was being facetious. Are you sure you're from Blount county? 2. See answer #1 3. That's your impression from a distance and as the mortal enemy. Two things red is never getting over: 1. Saban leaving LSU and then having the audacity to go to Alabama. 2. Red can't post on TideFan. PM me and I'll do it for you. I just hope you don't get me banned.
No I think they felt that the spoiled fan base was beginning to have unrealistic expectations. Once you have posted multiple national championships . . . how do you top that? How much do you enjoy being expected to do it every year? It strikes me as odd that people always imagine that their coach will never leave a successful program, when we have so many instances of top coaches doing just that including Nick. Displeased coaches will move along, quicker than you can say Dennis Francionne. Honestly I don't think Nick gives a rat's ass about trophies or the football tradition of wherever he is at. Nick is all about the single-minded pursuit and attainment of perfect football. Nick is a control freak who demands focus and perfection of the job at hand. The day he thinks the fan base or administration at Bama is more concerned with national Championships than playing excellent football . . . he will take THE SYSTEM to someplace that is ready to appreciate it. It ain't like it will be hard for him to find a spot or command top dollar.
Never try to speak for me, Hoss. You suck at it. You have never once heard me complaining about Nick going to Alabama. LSU wasn't available when he left the NFL (and he did make inquiries) so he went somewhere else. All I've said is that the local hostility never came from his leaving LSU but for returning to a school that competes with LSU every season. He would be a cherished part of LSU football history if he had gone anywhere but the west division of the SEC. Now he in a position to try to take something away from LSU every year, so he gets the same animosity that all the other West Division coaches get. I quit posting on TideFan way before the ban. It had become an xenophobic, intolerant blind homer board since Terry left and Rich died.
Kiffen and Orgeron set the standard for ugliness when it came to leaving. I didn't think they could do it, but they eclipsed Irsay's exit from Baltimore !!
Here's a question I'm looking forward to seeing answered. It's also one that needs asked of the majority here at times in post-Saban conversations, ya know?
I understand what you're saying and want to point out it was the two examples that caught my eye earlier and threw me for a bit of a loop. Still do, really. I believe what you're saying here fits Spurrier like a glove. If you think about the entire picture the national championship and the SEC Championships were the culmination of that story. I don't know if there ever was a slogan from UF that resembled "Once a Gator, always a Gator" but I'd imagine there was something close with SOS. With Meyer? So different than Spurrier. Just watching Meyer for the last decade...every day leaves me more convinced he's dealing with some type of mental disorder: severe OCD perhaps? No, there's these stories like turning in Florida where he denies he did it but someone in his football program/athletic department did. That's a personality disorder. As to the value of the ass of a rat: It strikes me odd as well—how people view a coach leaving, a recruit, traditions, etc. As to how a coach views a job? That's changed over the last quarter of a century just like it has in the business world. In the majority of situations I want a coach that is doing his job—which has unwritten, but defined criteria. You won't find a DSM on a book shelf here but I'd say it's safe to say CNS is OCD about that perfection you mention and less concerned about that first Saturday in December.
