Is John Bel Edwards related to Edwin?

Lost power an hour ago. Only street in the neighborhood without power.

 

I did a Google search on Edwin. I was surprised to learn the old fart is still alive. I think the only governor more crooked than him was Earl Long.

 

Earl was just a good ole boy who played the politics of the day. He didn’t steal nearly like his brother Huey did, but the most crooked governor on record is OK Allen who was convicted in office I think.

A great book about Earl is “The Earl of Louisiana” A J Liebling. It’s really a great story of Louisiana politics of the late 1950s. Who actually remembers when Earl had his breakdown then escaped from the mental institution in Texas?

 

My only contact with Earl was when he made a campaign stop in town. He gave me a quarter and said "Here kid. Go buy yourself a Coke." And I did.

 

Weren't cokes a dime when you were a kid? What did you do with the rest of the money?

 

Do you really expect me to remember that?

I just left helping a couple of friends haul sand bags and move generators and shit in place. There were several family members at one place- some preparing and some nit worried. My area is pretty split on how bad we think it will be here. I usually don’t leave it to chance but all I did was put an ice chest in kitchen to keep mayo, mustard, ham, etc. to make sandwiches without having to open fridge and lose cold air in it if we lose power. Much less to worry about now that kids have moved out.
