Russia backs Assad. We will be fighting them by proxy by discouraging the Russians from hitting certain rebels. A potential disaster written all over it particularly when Obama has not stated intention other than helping people "we like". We can't formulate any permanent policy shifts by merely dabbing our toe in the water every now and then. Either we want to go in and win/change the outcome permanently, or we just want to "help the locals". If it's the latter, then fuck that policy. We shouldn't drop one more bit of American blood for a noble purpose that has no purpose. Not to mention America will continue to add to the refugee problem....no worries at all to have thousands of future terrorists escaping Syria.
Helping people we like is Diplomacy 101, amiga. We like people that are fighting ISIS and we support them. We don't kiss Russia's ass and we help who we want to. We aren't supporting Syrian rebels who will not fight ISIS. We are keeping out of that quagmire and Russia is taking it on. Let them. You too, are confusing the civil war in Syria with the war against ISIS. Two wars, two strategies. It sounds like you want to "go in and win". Well then, spell out exactly what you suggest. I want to hear this. We are fighting the war against ISIS smartly--with airpower and Spec Ops and training up locals who are willing to fight. We are fighting the Syrian Civil War smartly--by staying the fuck out of it.

The news makes every place look dangerous. Nothing is ever actually dangerous unless you try hard to get in trouble in a very particularly bad place. Basically all of Lebanon is peaceful and stable like Gonzales or Metairie. We grew up in the 80s during the Lebanese civil war so we think of it as explosive. The only thing dangerous in Beirut is the explosively sexy ladies. I am near the American university of Beirut and you couldn't find a higher concentration of hotness outside of the lsu campus. They are waging a jihad of sexiness. New Orleans is far more dangerous.
