Some people see any kind of criticism as unloyal. A "true" fan says good things no matter what. Don't ask me to explain that attitude. I can't. Almost everything you said was true, except the part about players being fine with someone else winning. Maybe last year had some convinced they things would come easy, but I dont' think they're ok with losing.
I hear your frusrtation but Saban has been fusing about tackling all year. He hates it and all the fans watching it see it also and I know they have to see it over and over again in films. The only thing I would tend to agree on is the warriors heart is not on this team this year. Again this is what Saban hates he is wanting to get these kids to play a little nasty. So far they are not getting it done. But no way is this Sabans fault.
In defense of the defense... The thing no one seems to take into account in the games is that LSU's defense if filled with young players. This is an extremely complex defense and when you don't know how to make the proper checks, you will get burned running it. Georgia did what Oklahoma attempted to do last year in the Sugar Bowl... they checked off to max protection against the blitz and attempted to air it out. Last years players knew that when the qb made this check, they should check off to zone. This year, no one did that, so Greene had all day to throw the ball against man coverage. Now.. I dont care if you get the 2 best cornerbacks in the NFL and put them out there, if they are covering man2man and the qb is not getting pressured, they will get beat. Daniels and Webster were covering those guys very well, Greene just put it in the perfect spot. Thats the nature of the passing game, perfect coverage can be beat by a perfect pass. If you want to put some blame on a coach, try JF. Im really disappointed in his play calling this year. I dont think LSU threw the ball once on first down. His playcalling is extremely predictable, and the qb's dont have the experience (or possible the authority) to check off when the defense run blitzes. Unless you are a superfan like us and follow LSU recruiting, the offense reads like a who's who of who the hell are you? They are all young guys with potential. Potential only gets you so far without experience. There is, whoever, a high level of sloppiness on this team right now. Fumbles, dropped passes, missed tackles... not to mention poor x-man... these are all symptoms of youth. No matter how many times you practice form-tackling, young guys will still get over amped and overrun a tackle. Fumbles, look at Tiki Barber.. he is what? a 7 year guy in the NFL, and he still doesnt tuck the ball away.. some guys just dont get it. The fumbles from vincent and hester were from a sophomore and a freshmen. They WILL come around. WHen i watch this team, i feel like a frustrated parent, and im sure saban feels the same. I see lots of potential, but the growing pains are very evident. The scheduling was very hard on this team. Had the georgia and auburn games been at the end of the year, LSU would probably have won both. This will be one of the top teams int he country by December, even if the polls dont reflect it. If you look at the remaining schedule, LSu will probably finished 9-2. Most people predicted this. Most "experts" see the youth on this team. THen there is the Even Year factor. LSU schedule is always harder in Even number years. Next year we have Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, and Arkansas all at home, while in 2006 we have these teams away... Look at 2001, and 2002... the Even Year factor was definately there. Last but not the least is the QB situation. I have been a supporter of Marcus Randall all year. I still think he is the better QB to use, if LSU uses his skill properly. But they dont. They dont let him use his natural talent for running the ball. Some people discount running QBs, saying they should stand in the pocket and pass. I disagree. A running qb can get you 20 yard chunks with his legs because everyone is driving hard for the pocket or back in coverage. No spying LB can keep up with Randall. HOWEVER, i believe with the hopes of a NC out of hte picture, it is time to move on to Russell AND Flynn. It is time for the future to step up, because, while NS love his philosophy of "one game at a time", you must also think of the Program. And for the next 3 years, Russell and/or Flynn is the key to this Program. As for Randall. Im curious. Has he ever played DB. With his size and speed, he would be a great safety. Might be too late in the show to teach this dog a new trick, but it could be worth looking at, as opposed to moving Addai back there, as there rumors say could happen.
I've been an LSU fan my whole life. I'm an alumnus. I went thru and survived the Hallman era. And most of what ChiliPepper said was correct...this team came out yesterday and played with no heart whatsoever. If you think that pointing out the obvious makes one a "fair weather fan"...well, then I really don't give a sh*t what you think. It doesn't change the reality of the situation...and that situation is that this team is severely underperforming this season, given it's talent level.
I do agree with you about Greene’s touchdown passes, they were all perfect, very clutch, and placed only where the receivers could catch them, and the receivers did, indeed, make very great catches on all five passes. My hats off to them. It was not that the coverage was that bad on all of them. One of the main problems yesterday was that the defense didn’t get any help from the offense, and the key to a good defense is often times a good offense. However, I disagree that any of the blame should be placed on coach Jimbo, because it’s not his call that he has to get two very different quarterbacks ready to play each week in the same time he had in past years to get only one quarterback ready to play, and it’s not his fault that because of this two quarterback experiment, that each quarterback only is getting half the reps in practice when both need and should be getting as many reps as possible. Jimbo didn’t make those calls. You see it’s not Jimbo’s fault that each quarterback is stuck getting coach Jimbo’s divided attention, when both should be getting his undivided attention, and it’s not the offense’s fault that they can’t develop continuity and team chemistry because of this two-quarterback nonsense. I mean put yourself in coach Jimbo’s shoes, his workload as an offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach has in essence doubled this year, so it’s to be expected that the offensive unit as a whole would lack a little cohesiveness and creativeness, especially when you only have a fraction of the time you had in previous years to prepare. I also disagree that Marcus Randall should be starting and I disagree that today a running mediocre one dimensional quarterback like Marcus Randall can be successful in the SEC, in the past the answer may have been yes, but not in today’s day and age with today’s sophisticated defenses. If you believe otherwise, witness Nebraska’s recent change of direction. In fact, this year’s team’s travails against OSU, Auburn, and now UGA stands as a testament to that unfortunate reality. The fact that LSU is a one dimensional team on offense this year with an ineffectual passing game due to Marcus Randall and an absurd two-quarterback experiment is exactly why teams are loading the box and making our offense look so inept. That should have been very apparent after the OSU game. Last year’s team was two-dimensional: stop the run and the offense would beat you with the pass or vice a versa. Teams are loading the box this year on LSU and the offense lacks the other dimension to force the opponent’s defense to respect the pass. Hell, the reason UGA’s offense was so effective yesterday against LSU is because they used both the run and the pass equally effectively to dismantle LSU’s defense!
After reading a comment like this where you insinuate the LSU players basically do not give a damn and are not giving it their all.... I am simply going to spare myself and set you on ignore. I have not used that option in quite some time. Here's to having just read your last post ever! :cuss: :cuss:
First let me start in response to some other posts. I know its not at all coach saban's fault and you can't coach heart and desire, but to me, it seemed like they were outcoached in all aspects yesterday, but like i said that is just me. Now to get to the matter at hand, I am very happy you took the time to read my post and tell me that you were ignoring me. I guess i should work harder next time to please you your highness. I'm so very sorry. But by the way the players played yesterday, it showed that they had no heart, so if you can come up with a valid point to prove that they were playing w/ heart, tell me and i will shut up. But until then you "ignore" me. I was also wondering people's opinions on a shakeup in the starting lineup. Who is #34? Whomever he was, when he was in the game at the end, and he was flying around making plays. I know it was against Georgia's 2nd team O and the game was way out of hand. But what does coach saban have to lose?? Maybe he should try some new setups? What is your opinion?
spies? I thought the stiring of crap was just a turd turner? must be a new janitorial name. anyway riht on the money!
How many starting defensive players did Auburn lose last year? More than LSU. Auburn lost some of their best defensive players and seem to be just as good, if not better, as last year. We lost some of our best players also but had lots of talented players coming back and filling in. Auburn's defense is also filled with young players. So I'm not sure I buy your explanation.
