a friend of mine is from beijing and he makes the same argument red makes. "people are packed in there like sardines!".

yes, cities are bustling. that is because jobs and culture and awesome sports and friends and beer are in cities. so people flock together, and we love it.

there are places in america that are unimaginally remote. a long drive out west will leave you desperate for humans and traffic.

150 years ago people thought london was as big as it possibly could get. they were packed in there, and periodically they would have a massive kill-off from cholera or whatever. but technology improves, capacity rises.

the reasons small family farms are dead is because the technology and productivity of modern farms is so great. one dude with a tractor and genetically modified kikckass seeds and some fantastic chemicals can feed 10 times as many folks with the same amount of land. technology and advancement continually increases the number of people the earth can sustain.

not only that, but if there was ever a self-correcting problem, this is it. it will manage itself when the **** hits the fan.

Ah, so there IS a role for government in a society and its economy.

See, you've actually learned something important. :thumb:

That's fine but they still have one of the largest concentration of poor people in the world and housing a third of the world's poor.

    From Wiki:

214 million hungry in India as food prices soar -- 7/31/09

Well, that's five commodities over ten years. Your claim was that virtually ALL raw materials were cheaper than 100 years ago. Uranium, petroleum, industrial chemicals, and even gold and silver, among others, will not stand this test.
