That would be Jon Kaplan - see my thread on "most hated opposing player".

I was at the SEC tourney game at The Box in 1985 when Lilliquist pitched 7 strong innings against LSU and then hit a 3-run HR in the 11th to win it. It was the very first post-season game of the Skip Bertman era at LSU.

I was there for the completion of the regional final. If I remember, the Sunday final, score tied, was halted in about the 8th due to rain. A winner had to be determined by Monday. If the game could not be resumed and completed, they would have to resort to a coin flip. It rained all morning. Somehow, they got the game in. If I remember correctly, LSU scored the winning run on a slow roller to 3rd which Spann booted. Am I right ?

By the way, Yurtin was one of the coolest 3rd basemen. He really loved the 3rd base rude boys and vice versa. Hell of a cool guy.

That is correct. And Skip & the boys made their first trip to Omaha.

The thing I remember about that game is that they had to bring in two National Guard helicopters to blow the field dry. Drainage at The Box then wasn't what it is today.

I remember that. Those things hovered over the field for a long, long time. Those were some crappy conditions for a regional final.

Yurtin is still my favorite 3rd baseball to ever play fro LSU.

You have the story...almost. IF we'd lost Monday morning, the scum still would have to play another game. We took those losers out in an elimination game, there was no championship game for Tulane.

Tookieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Spann also managed to keep it up that fall in football as he boobled one or two screen passes that were picked off. I always wondered how he ate with those hands!

Agree on Yurtin. A favorite of mine. How long was that guy's neck ?

So if I understand, had Tulane won, and had rain prevented a second game, a coin flip would have settled it. Is that right ?
