Oh 46&2... Man really solid. I am a HUGE fan of Tool. In my top 5... Man good choice. 46&2 just ahead of me... The fact you have a Perfect Circle on there means you also share of love of Tool. as a drummer tool is like Rush for me. Just amazing musicians....
I just have a love of music period but yes Maynard is the man!! Lyrically nobody comes close. I can listen to all songs from both Tool and APC in a row and not get tired of them.
I am pretty sure all 3 members of Rush are Juliard grads and it could be urban legend but I've heard that all the tool members were kicked out of Juliard. Either way, great phucking band.
I am a HUGE Rush fan and read everything you can imagine. The documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage is wonderful but they never mentioned that. Matter of fact Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson where high school buddies and both dropped out in Grade 11 (Canada's version of Junior) to pursue music. Neil Peart joined after their first album when their current drummer was unable to tour anymore. But yes Rush and Tool are very similar in that they are extremely good musicians. Danny Carey is flat out amazing. I can play most Rush songs, for some reason Tool is so difficult because Carey never does the same thing twice. I always say if you want to hear the coolest grove in music. Listen to the Song The Pot off 10,000 days (One of my favorites) around 4:30 on. Awesome...
Tough to narrow down the song list to the top 5; maybe top 5 artists. Anyway, let's go back to the '70's (mostly), and artists only, and I like just about everything they've recorded: 1. Led Zep 2. Beatles 3. Peter Frampton 4. Steely Dan 5. Rush
You are correct; and an excellent documentary. I loved the part where they covered their American tour with KISS, and Gene Simmons said he and the others would go looking for the Rush guys to party, and they'd always be in their hotel rooms reading classic literature. Definitely a different kind of band. My top 5 Rush tunes: 1. The Camera Eye 2. The Big Money 3. Red Barchetta 4. Spirit of the Radio 5. Turn the Page
Here are mine: 1. Spirit of Radio 2. Lessons 3. Lakeside Park 4. Red Sector A 5. Red Barchetta Tough to do!
+1 on Red Sector A. The whole Grace Under Pressure had an edginess to it that Rush rarely approached. Between the Wheels and The Body Electric are two other excellent choices from that album. TexasTigers mentioned Tom Sawyer as one of his Rush favorites. No doubt a great song, but I find when you listen beyond the main stream tunes on their albums is when you find greatness. Which is why I didn't mention Distant Early Warning in the last paragraph, though its still an awesome song.
