Yes as other 70’s bands were. But they did big things in the 80’s as well.

To me, their last great album/CD was Master of Puppets. Ride the Lightening was a masterpiece and Kill'em All is severely underrated and is also masterpiece in it's own right.
As well ass big hair, parachute pants, jams, etc., etc.
