todays comments I saw the news this evening also, and I would have to say that he is gone. What I can't get past is his attitude and apparent shock that this is all anybody is talking about. He was very combative and refused to answer any questions about the Miami job yet he complained that people are speculating constantly? Wake up Nick! If are not going to answer any questions and we are in the middle of recruiting and getting ready for New Years Day bowl game, what the hell do you think people are going to do? Talk about how practice is going? Get a grip man... You set the stage just like you have the past two years and are shocked when you get a reaction from the LSU nation? :dis: At this point, and I really hate to say this, the NFL is welcome to him. I would rather have a coach that wants to win and establish a legacy at LSU for the short and long term. Not someone who is using this as a stepping stone to his next gig. Nick has done some great things for LSU and he has been more than fairly compensated. I think it is a sad time but we need a parting of the ways. There is obviously something he is not 100% happy with here if he is looking to jump ship every year.
right, like islstl says, it isnt the dolphins fault. they have to play along to avoid fines. i believe that matt millen had to pay a couple hundred grand for not jumping though the nfl's hoops. but you may mean why does saban want to get involved with an organization like the nfl? the whole thing really screws everyone involved, including black coaches.
Saban's probably just upset that the whole thing couldn't have been kept under wraps. He's never been too sweet on the media to begin with, and I certainly don't blame him for that. I also believe he's as pissed as any of us fans are that the situation has to drag out so long. Of course, he may still be wavering. There are many factors involved (e.g. family's feelings, risk of college-to-pro move, et cetera). I'm not worried about LSU being hurt by this - we're in position to land a quality coach, and I'm sure we will. And why are some of us acting like the Michigan State fans we laughed at 5 years ago? Back then, most of us said we knew Saban would leave after a few years and would tell him "thanks and good luck" when it happened. Now some are complaining about the fact that he may actually want to move on to another job. There's nothing wrong with that. Now, that said, if he decides to leave, I hope we get someone of his ilk and calibre who will want to stay at LSU for a long, long time. ldskule:
I wouldn't be surprised if he did that either. Another thing he said today was "This is not a simple matter for me and it is not a simple matter for my family." To me that one sentence clearly states who wants what.
If Saban knew what he wanted... or what he was going to do, he would tell us... As much as this situation has annoyed me, I know that he doesn't know what he will do. I have enough faith in the man to say that if he knew he was leaving for the Dolphins, he would have a conference and tell us that if Miami offered him the job, he would take it. He has not said anything of the sort, which means he still is unsure himself...
Or if he will accept the job he can't say anything, must play the waiting game because of the minority rule in the NFL or that would really make the Dolphin organization look bad along with the NFL
I disagree. If he knew he was going to turn down the offer and stay at LSU, he would announce that. But, if he knows he will take the job when it can be officially offered, he will wait. Too much risk in flat out stating: "I will take the job if they offer it." Not until it's a done deal. What if something happened and the Dolphins decided on someone else (as slim of a possibility as that may be)? Best to wait until it's official to announce that he's leaving. If he were definitely staying, then he could announce that. That's why it is evident that he is either going to take the job, or he just hasn't yet decided. And that's why, to me, it looks as if there is a very good chance that he will take it. I'm still hoping he doesn't!
I think you're right. IF he wanted to truely stay at LSU, he would come out and say he's staying. End of discussion. Since he's not saying that, that leads me to believe that he wants to go to Miami, but because of the delicate situation that is the "minority interview", he'll say he's "not sure" and all of the other friendly things, knowing he's got to wait until a deal is officially offered.
Think about Saban is no idiot, he HAS to know what is happening to recruiting, and he does not care which translates to "Yeh I know recruites are leaving, but I really could care less about the future of LSU football" Thanks for the Memories Saban, but the way you are departing is NOT building on your legacy and is doing MORE damage to the LSU program. Thanks.
