Nonsense... Booing is out of line, but if the team plays like they did Saturday, they certainly do not deserve my support. I wasn't at the game, but sure as heck would have walked out on them. They fought like dogs in the Georgia game and deserved fan support, win or lose, but the way they 'played' Florida, they should apoligize to the fans for making LSU look so bad on national TV. Maybe the real problem is that NOT ENOUGH fans left early. Maybe the so called 'die hard' fans are co-dependant and enabling the team to sleep through important games, knowing they'll have fan support anyway. Maybe those fans need to go on the Oprah show whine about it there. Bottom line is the problem is the players, not the fans. Our fans are as good as any when the team is putting forth a real effort, but that garbage Saturday afternoon didn't deserve any fan support. cheers!
Re: Nonsense... You just defined a bandwagon fan ... only support them when they do well! There is no question this team laid an egg against Florida, but that doesn't mean they don't "deserve any fan support".
bandwagon, no... if you read the post, you'll see I said that win or lose, they deserved fan support for the UGA effort. When the team is obviously not prepared and not putting out their best effort, they do not deserve support.....I stand by that. They have the talent to do better than they did and should not be rewarded with fan support for sandbagging. I'm not talking about booing, which I don't ever think is acceptable.
A good point was made about the rain. After Devery's fumble with about 3 minutes left, it was starting to come down again and the game was obviously over. Who knows, maybe having fans walk out on you is extra motivation for the players to not let it happen again. When you have fans cheer you after a tough loss, the pain isn't quite as bad. I personally never realized that it takes almost three hours to get out of campus if you park in that lot past the practice field. I was befuddled about everyone leaving with 9 minutes left but moving about 50 yds in 3 hours can make you do strange things. Hey, it's just one of those games. The season's not over.
You don't think it is acceptable to boo a 4 yard pass on 3rd and 25 when you are down by 12 in the 4th quarter? I let out a quick boo at this point simply because I was fed up with playcalling. There is not a whole lot the team can do in long yardage situations or in any situation for that matter when every pass seems to be completed at the line of scrimmage. The offensive playcalling deserved some booing and hopefully Jimbo and Nick now have to realize this offense needs to be opened up, at least a little. We can only rely on our receivers' speed so much to get us down the field. Also on the running game, LSU gets stuffed at the line because every play is straight up the middle without any misdirection at all. When I saw them run counters and pitches or off-tackle plays they gained a lot more yardage. For some reason we feel the need to stuff it up the middle and that is not getting it done.
Re: bandwagon, no... The sad part about this situation is that they had two weeks to prepare for the game and the same two weeks to recoup from injuries.
Re: Re: Nonsense... I agree 100%. I have NEVER left an LSU game early, and I have been to many, many, LSU games over the past 40 or so years, including some in extremely bad weather when the Tigers had no chance to come back from a large deficit. Even though I have much disdain for them, I have never chided the "fans" who leave early. I have, however, made comments like "hey, this game isn't over!" when I see 'em heading to the exits - particularly when there's still a lot of time left. I root hard for the Tigers all the way to 0:00, and I never say "die." I always envision some way that the Tigers can still pull it out if there is some time remaining on the game clock. Did any of you go to the Kentucky game last year? How many of you left that one early? That should have been a lesson, but I guess getting that jump on the traffic so you can get to your computer and post some negative comments makes it all worthwhile. What if Henderson had not fumbled Saturday? What if the Tigers had scored on that play or the next one? Then, it's a 5 point game with time left. What if, then, a fired up Tiger D forces a gator turnover? LSU would then have had a good chance to salvage the game after being outplayed for a large portion of it. But it's a 60 minute game! Did ya'll see that game last Monday between the Colts and the Bucs? It was awesome! The Colts pulled out that game against an incredibly good defense on their opponent's home field. Anything can, and often does happen on the gridiron. Now that I am out-of-state and I don't make it to too many LSU games, I don't even leave a TV broadcast early. I stay right there in front of the TV, trying to pass good vibes through the TV to the team! I'll be doing that when the Tigers take the field against SC next Saturday, regardless of the score. I will be in Tiger Stadium the following Saturday, and I will be there when the final horn sounds, even if the LSU Tigers are trailing by 60 - 0. If that is the case, I'll be rooting for them to get on the scoreboard and avoid the shutout. If the Tigers are ahead 94 - 0, I'll be there to the end scraming "let's get 100!!!" and "keep the shutout!!!" If the Tigers are behind by 42 - 14, I'll be cheering for them to make it more respectable at the end. I root for the Tigers to the bitter end, regardless of how they are playing or whether they are winning or losing. But, I guess that's just me... :geaux:
And you SpringTiger have every right to stay there as long as you like and no one should say anything to you about how long you stayed "after the game is over". But, what I posted earlier in this thread was that just as no one should have anything to say about you staying late, you have no right to say anything about those that choose to leave early. I attended LSU starting in the fall of 1960 and have had season tickets and have attended most games ever since then. IF I decide to leave early occasionally, that's my business, not yours or any one elses unless you want to pay for my tickets next season.
Those who say they "If I leave early it's my business and not yours" are absolutely right. It isn't our business. You paid for your ticket and you can leave anytime you want. But those are the Tiger fans who aren't real fans. Real fans are the ones who stick it out to the bitter end. Leaving early is the true sign of a fairweather fan.
No, it isnt acceptable to boo a 4 yard pass on 3rd and 25. Even if the play was designed to gain only 4 yards, you shouldnt boo. There is no manner in which you can boo that isnt heard by the players or recruits that may be making an official visit. Booing negatively impacts the players, is usually tuned out by the coaches, and deters recruits. Booing is not constructive in any way and only hurts the team and program.
