TE - while I respect your opinion, I think you are giving yourself and Saban way too much credit. I think BB nailed it when he said that the future was uncertain and Saban was/is professional enough to not just drop his current work habits. While you throw out incidents that the average fan (not meaning "average", but just meaning not privy to all workings and happenings of LSU football) might not know, you are not Saban and thus really are just throwing out an opioniated theory that you cannot substantiate. So pat yourself on the back for "thinking deeply", but I'd have to stop far short of saying that you're anywhere near correct.

As a working professional, you must be prudent enough to know that nothing is certain, so until you have that job "locked" up, you better damn well continue doing what you do. And in Saban's case, you know of no other way.

This is basically what I tried to say, but my version was much more concise. Thanks for expounding.

Saban is a man driven by the quest for perfection. It is not in his nature to quit. So as long as he was an LSU coach he was going to do his job the best he could. It wasn't about planning for an event for someone else. He is driven and cannot change the way he does things.

I have to agree otherwise as well. He was ensuring his success at LSU even if the NFL came calling. It is not beyond comprehension that he did look far enough into the future in evaluating upcoming talent and saw what was on the horizon. SO he stocked up then and is loaded now. I don't think his intention, even at the beginning of the season, was to go to the NFL after this season so he was looking at his own situation as Head Coach at LSU and doing what needed to be done. Miami came along and made an offer no one in their right mind could refuse...and he thought long and hard before taking it.
