People like you never cease to amaze me. Here's a news flash: being the most talented team does not equal a perfect season in ANY sport at ANY level, regardless of the coach at the helm. Don't believe me? Ask USC about their loss to Oregon State this year, or Texas's loss to A&M today. Last season, the UConn basketball team had arguably the most NBA talent of any other college team in the country and got eliminated by a complete unknown from a mid-major in the NCAA tournament. There are simply too many intangibles and situations beyond a team's control (the hurricanes last year and the unprecedented nightmare of a road schedule LSU had this year). IMO, there's simply no way an Ohio State or Michigan plays that same schedule and stays undefeated. I don't care if you have Jim Tressel, Lloyd Carr, Pete Carroll, Tom Landry, or Vince Lombardi himself on the sideline Do you know how many schools have real college fb dynasties in terms of national championships? Nebraska and USC are the only teams to win back-to-back NCs in recent history (of course, USC's claim is debatable). Perfection in this sport, especially of the type you demand, is both unreasonable and unprecedented.
Miles is a good coach and has done the program proud. This was an assume game and a great effort by the entire team. But, this thread is as dumb as the ones that scream to fire Miles when he loses. What's the point?
What makes you people think Miles is any different than Coker? Talent is winning games for LSU just like it did at Miami for a few years. Coker even won a national championship. Look at him now. Miles team at Ok. State was undisciplined and now his team at LSU is too. Why else do you think the Tigers barely beat Ole Miss, Alabama, and Arkansas and lose to Auburn and Florida all of which LSU has considerably more talent? Now I am of the idea that you shouldn't bash a coach when he is winning games regardless of the circumstances. LSU is 10-2 RIGHT NOW, but just wait and see in a few years LSU will turn into Miami now.
therin lies the problem crip....absolutely nothing wrong with questioning decisions by the coaching staff. its part of football, always has been and always will. i "what if" with the best of them. but when does questioning turn to bashing? when has discussion about a run on 3rd and 4 instead of a pass turned into just another opportunity to slam miles for his hat, his wife, his public speaking, etc. "questioning" turns into bashing pretty doggone quick. in fact, most of the bashing is silly and immature and cruel at times. there are lots of us that live and breathe LSU sports that come here to the more "mature" website to discuss and question coaching decisions. it appears that for a select few, they only come here to agitate and stir up dissention AFTER EVERY PLAY, making silly, inane comments designed to not question or discuss, but to overly criticize. there's a website for that: the arkansas board, the tennessee board, the ole miss board, etc. do i support coach les miles? you bet, abolutely, darn tootin', and all that stuff. he's the coach of the team, and as such i will support him until he is no longer the coach. do i kiss his a$$, swallow, and all the other junior high school wisecracks muttered about by the whiners? no. do i question decisions he has made?heck yea! about 20 times a game....but more often than not, in hindsight they work out. ....I enjoy coming to this board for information and discussion. not to listen to a bunch of high school freshmen talk about miles' hat. it seems there are 2 camps: the kool-aiders and the whiners. if you're pro-miles then you're a kool-aid drinker and if you're anti-miles then you're a whiner and complainer. don't like being identified as such? well i don't either. why don't we begin to discuss more and bash less?
Great post kcal! The whole thing not just the part I picked out. I consider myself neither a koolaider nor a basher. Personally, I like Les, he seems like a good person. As a coach, I'm content to judge him based on his performance. He has good talent, and they have performed well. I hear this "we have national championship talent" so we should have won the NC. bull. Our o-line did not run block at a high level of efficiency ALL YEAR LONG. That was not just coaching, this is not a great o-line. Our running backs were spotty at best this year. Everyone had an opportunity to run with it, and they made some good plays here and there. Nobody dominated and won the job. Some of the frosh may develop in another year or two, but we have no Darren McFaden this year. If you put us on a neutral field against Ohio St. tomorrow, they would be the betting favorite and probably win the game. Could LSU pull an upset? Possibly. All I'm saying is LSU does not have the best talent in the country every year. No team wins the NC every year. If you expect us to, that is an unrealistic expectation, and its your problem, not the coaches or the players. Anybody think we had more talent than Texas or USC last year? Not me, those teams were both LOADED and we weren't. You see how many of their kids went in the first 3 rounds? The NFL folks aren't crazy, they know great talent when they see it. Les has put up two consecutive top ten finishes his first two seasons. That's a very good job. That's the bottom line.
I just wanted to mention that someone gave me red for this post. I guess that was the best excuse they could come up with.
I am just wondering what would happen when Fisher and/or Pellini moves on with Miles having to go for new coordinators. There obviously will be up and downs during the transition period, not to mention the same happening when seasoned seniors move on with younger players having to step in and perform. I bet the bashers will take every opportunity to take a jab at Miles, despite this being the nature of the sport. I would also be interested in a simple poll as to what percent LSU fans are pleased with this season. I am one who is very pleased, esp. with the gratifying and redeeming win yesterday. Overall I think Miles, his coordinators included, did a good job this year.If some of you think that is worth it, please set that up as I do not know how to have it set up in this forum.
Because it hasn't happened. We have had two 10 win seasons in a row. If the time comes that he begins to fail then discuss it at that time. Right now it is fine to point out inefficiencies in play calling or lack of performance in certain aspects of the game. But to try to force a comparison when there isn't any indication that it will happen is just causing you to "hope" for failure so you can say "I told you so". Let's just discuss what is the here and now instead of 2-3 years in the future. We may all be living in boxes and suffering from radiation sickness in 3 years. How bout that prediction? Plus...I like Koolade. Especially the Blue Berry Blast.
