Ms. Mae's is also a nice little typical NO hole in the wall...If you are at leat 5', are wearing clothes, and have money...you can drink until dawn...
Try Petunia's in the quarter for breakfast. Pasquale's Manale is famous for bar be que shrimp. Also the bread pudding there is the best I've ever had. Between New Orleans and Baton Rouge (sort of) is Middendorf's which is famous for it's fried Catfish. The lines on Friday night aren't too bad, probably not more than an hour or two. Manale's shrimp and Middendorf's catfish were both listed in a list of the 100 best things to eat in America. Beignets at Cafe du Monde (somebody mentione this) was also on the list. The Audubon zoo is one of the best zoos in the country, and there are several anti-bellum homes along the river. New Orleans is a lot of fun and I hope you really enjoy your trip (except for three hours on Saturday afternoon).
I won't be rude, I'll let him know the name. Its called The Oz. You should be comfortable there if you are wearing orange.
Fat Harrys is a good place to go. Mostly college aged kids there. I use to work there hehe. If you went down Napoleon from Fats is Ms Maes and further down is F&Ms at 4841 Tchoupitoulas. Fun, rowdy bar for the late night. Good cheese fries and drunchies. Anywhere on Bourbon is good for tourists id say but not for the kiddies. You could take the street car down St Charles and hit Igors open 24 hours and do your laundry there too if you wanted. They have a bunch of good places down St Charles plus the Houses are beautiful there. The Columns is nice and there is a Superior Grill there for good ritas.
I understand that the section of Bourbon Street from Saint Ann to Esplanade is known as "The Gator Quarter". Seriously, it's very touristy but you can't go to New Orleans without a visit to Pat O's. A hurricane in the courtyard or a rollicking good time in the cocktail lounge will verify why Pat's has supplanted Disneyland as "The Happiest Place On Earth". (Saint Peter @ Bourbon)
Get the debris Po-Boy at Mother's. Also, the brunch at Court of Two Sisters is as good as anywhere in the country.
