Come on man like you said, be realistic! There is no chance that Norm Chow would leave USC for LSU.

Why are some excited over Norm Chow? I'd take him as OC in a second, and I'd love to see him develop Jamarcus Russell, but he was passed over at BYU. Why? Did Lavell Edwards not think his long-term assistant could get it done?

Lots of questions there--and he's not a young guy. He's less than 10 years from retirement.

The points being made about a younger guy who's in a position like Saban was five years ago is intriguing. But would that just put us in a lurch with the NFL carrots being placed in front of the new guy every year?

Tedford would be at the top of my list. He's a quality coach and recruiter, and he has a long history of developing great college quarterbacks. We could certainly use someone like that.

Butch Davis, if he wants the job, should be his without question.

He was a horrible fit for the NFL, but a great fit at Miami.

His "itch" for the NFL was extinguished/satisfied, and now he will be a college coach from here on in. LSU could be looking at a head coach for the next 20 plus years.

He took a team that was on probation and within 5 years should have been playing for the NC in 2000, but fell just short. The Miami Hurricanes, made up of entirely Butch Davis' players, won that NC in 2001.

Norm Chow may be the only OC/DC I would consider at the college ranks. I think he is the best offensive mind that the college game has to offer. My only reservation about him is the report that he said he was not really interested in becoming a head coach. Not exactly what you wanna hear from a guy you would be hiring as your next head coach.

Dennis Erickson will be successful at the college level again, should he ever return. My concern with him is the mess he left at Miami.

Call it pompous if you like, but LSU has proven that it will pay their head coach more than any other college in the country. Couple that with top 5 facilities and a top 5 stadium (93,000 and soon to grow) along with #1, #15. #1 and #2 recruiting classes over the last 4 years and you are naive if you think that Iowa is currently on par with LSU from a coaching standpoint. Not to mention La is probably the most talent rich football state in the country.

5 years ago I would have agreed with you. But when you look at what this university has agreed to do for its coaches and student athletes, this is a top tier coaching job in the country right now.

My question to people that want Davis here.....why would you want such a low-class man running our school?

He screwed Miami over by telling EVERYONE, including players, that he was not leaving Miami...then bolted without even telling his players and many of his coaches.

And then every player at Cleveland hated him for lying to them and creating a horrible atmosphere.

    Listen to these quotes

    http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/football/10488144.htm?1c
And I am sure you have read the numerous other reports about players slamming him left and right about accountability, trust, and having players 'spy for him'

Uh, huh? Spy on his own players?

    I hear stories like this

    http://www.houstonprofootball.com/slant/slant9.html

I like how CNNSI talked about Butch Davis in their 2001 College Football Pre-Season Magazine

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/college/2001/preview/mmi/

And I ask myself, do I really trust this guy?

    I sure as hell don't.

Another great story about Butch Davis and how he didn't even talk to his college team about his professional terms.
