I've asked this before, and I'll ask it again: Would we have put up with a football coach for this long that didn't make us competitive?
And, pray tell, what do you consider being competitive? Winning all the games and going to the Final Four and being proclaimed the best of all time so then your life will have meaning?
Not competitive? We're still on track to make the tourney. Ellis at AU and Gottfried at Bama have been around as long as Brady and are struggling more right now. Fan support and facilities make the basketball vs football comparison difficult to do. Although I still support Brady, I'm treating these last few games like a final exam that's about 40% of your grade. It can be the difference between an A or D for the semester. Wins and losses are important but team unity and off the court representation will play a factor also. If these Tigers play hard and lose, but defend their coach and represent the university well, I would support Brady another year. If they flame out and Bass (for example) complains about Brady, I might say Brady should be replaced. Like someone else said, the fact that Emmert and Bertman are handling the situation makes you feel better. I guess I'll trust them like I trust Saban. There's no reason not to right now.
Being competitive means not being blown out. Much less 2 games in a row and Vandy wasn't in the top 25. Its also beating Centenary by 1 point? Losing to Global Sports? How good is that? This team isn't playing as a team, thier playing like a bunch of individuals......... Like the Lakers were before Phil Jackson got there...... Like the football team did with Dinardo....
"I've asked this before, and I'll ask it again: Would we have put up with a football coach for this long that didn't make us competitive?" Spartan fans were asking the same question a few years ago. LOL Thank the good Lord the answer was no. Thank you Michigan State Athletic Department for showing no confidence in Nick Saban. Thank you Mr. Emmert for seeing through the naysayers at Michigan State. I hope he makes the correct decision on Brady because I'll admit I don't have a clue.
This season has been a mystery for me. Either Brady can't recruit talent or, Brady can't coach talent, or, talent disappears when they get on the LSU campus, or, basketball doesn't need talent to win, or, I can go on & on. I hope it's just the ole injury bug & the team will jell soon.
certainly brady did not do a good job preparing for that game (or maybe the team didnt execute), but that was a good wisconsin team and they gave a lot of teams trouble
do you really think that there is much to learn from comparing basketball to football? most, if not all of the contributing freshmen played positions that are more skill based that dont require as much understanding of the system--you dont see many freshmen at QB, OL, LB, S. I think its hard to hide a player on the basketball court. They'll really kill you on D. we debate a lot about the freshman issue, and i enjoy it (i'm still not sure who's right). whenever i've been dissappointed in this years freshmen i try to remember that these guys can develop a lot. i dont think dupree and temple played at all and look how good they were their junior years. of course some guys dont pan out, and that can be because of them or the coach. have there been many players that you think brady hasnt developed well? bright and hudson come to mind
My definition of competitive is gaining and keeping a top 25 record, making the NCAA tourney pretty much every year, getting to the Sweet 16 every 3-4 years, turning in an Elite 8 appearance now and again, with a shot at the Final Four from time to time. My point was that we hold football to a higher standard at LSU.
