Interesting and constructive idea (considering this is an internet message board) to document expectations. But it is just too soon to have this discussion.
It seems to be a given that Miles must completely turn over the offense to an OC who can teach college kids how to play in that system. I don't know if that person is Cam. The other critical component to this change is to recruit strategically to the offensive system employed by the OC. A pro-style offense can work with a pro-style QB. A spread offense can work with a duel-threat QB. If LSU doesn't become more strategic with its recruiting, we will still be stuck again trying to hammer a square peg in a round hole. I must admit I am a little queasy waiting to see if Les can make these changes.
No less than 6 wins in the SEC on a bad year. 9-3 on a bad year. Only thing is those 3 losses can't be blowout losses to 3 of your rivals.
No, I meant that it was too soon after the debacle of the last two weeks. Too many people want to jump in and say that 'it won't happen'. There is an overwhelming negative feeling on the board right now in my opinion. And I cannot say that I am not a contributor.
Its not going to be said publicly, but I really think it comes down to his having earned the right to a last-chance-to-fix-what's-broke. If that's the case, now it has to be determined what's acceptable next year? Like @tirk said earlier, its more than just the record, its about competing for titles. Our November schedule next year is Bama, at Arkansas, South Alabama, and at A&M. I would suggest that if LSU is out of contention for the West before the Arkansas game, that's it.
See, I supported Les for 9 years. In this very forum, I defended him against those who said he won with Saban's players, those who called him an idiot, those who blamed him for the woeful offense. But years ago I started to see the wheels come off even in the middle of a perfect regular season. Each year I would be cautiously optimistic for the next year. I gave him several years to make improvements but the team was obviously on the declined. Last year was it for me. I realized he wasn't going to change and he was the main problem. This year, outside of the brilliance of #7, was arguably worse than last year. You and the rest of the Les fandom are just now getting to where I was last year. Now you have just decided that it is unreasonable for me not to want to give him another year. Ya'll have arbitrarily decided that all the arguments you made for "one more year",ie he's a swell fella, he wins a lot, he's a NC winning coach, he is presiding over the Golden Era, etc etc etc, will no longer apply next year if he doesn't win the West. What's one more year gonna prove. It's just another year of wasted talent. Another year of busted expectations. Another year of the putrid offense. All your justifications will still be true next year. It'll be just as wrong to fire him next year. why prolong the inevitable? Yeah, I know its a moot point now but we might as well stick with him until he retires regardless of how the team performs. The "if he doesn't win the West next year" argument is pointless.
@LSUDieHard Well, like you said its a moot point, and my post was based on that fact. He's here to stay, now let's try to figure out what went into that decision. I'm ready for a change, too. But like Les Miles, I am not a "throw someone under the bus" type personality. So I'm looking for a rational explanation for why things went down the way they did.
