Here's the deal. Those are pretty much the goals we set every year. Miles hasn't come close to meeting those goals in four years and we just seem to finish further and further from them. The MIles-at-all-costs supporters have had to adjust the goal to just one - a winning record. The crowd cried to give him one more year. What good is that going to do? Are you seriously suggesting that if LSU doesn't beat Bama and win the West next year, that magically Les will have done something to deserve firing that he hasn't done already? Next year we lose to Bama, Ole Miss, Arkansas probably Auburn but we still finish 8-4. Miles will still be the best coach we ever had. We'll still be in the golden age of LSU football. Why should Les suddenly be held responsible for an 8-4 season next year when 8 wins was good enough this year.
You're confusing a couple of things here. I am not discussing public perception. I am not discussing Miles's past; nor am I discussing what is likely to happen or even what implications these goals have on his keeping his job. I'm doing this for the purposes of this board because I want to know what goals this board finds reasonable to place on Miles. That's all. We can debate what's reasonable and what's not, but this thread isn't concerned with the BS in the media right now.
This is very useful. So how do you objectify these stipulations? We can set a baseline for balance in introducing new elements to the offense; I'm interested in your proposals. I tried to objectify #2, but I don't know if top-50 is reasonable.
I am 100% for setting out criteria in advance and either they are met or not. I just don't think any of those you set out are gonna be met, and I honestly can't think of anything right now that I can list as criteria for success that is a) achievable, or b) meaningful. Please do not get me wrong, I totally applaud your thought process, I guess, when all is said and done, I don't think we can have a successful year next year.
what is reasonable is that we have a balanced offense that can take on the toughest part of our schedule, and a credible special teams coach and a much better defensive coordinator.....so 3 coaches need to go and many assistants since we are forced to keep the head buffoon
correct. thats where the discrepancy seems to be. its not about specific numbers. 10 win seasons, 77% winning, who gives a fuck if you cant even compete for your division. And the reasons we cant are the reasons you listed clearly above that everyone following the program closer than ESPN is fully aware. so until changes are made, theres little need to discuss goals for next year. our goals are always the same. our goals cannot be met doing what we are doing. this is very well said.
How about recruiting a real QB instead a great athlete that played QB in high school. Maybe Etling. We don't know yet....................
