Correct on Jackie Burkett, Joe Scarpatti. I'd forgotten that it was Kilmer who made the throw to Dodd on the previous play. I remembered it being Hargett.
On the other questions I put out there: Tom Hodson in the mid-90's. Played in several games, though I don't believe he ever started. Wayne Martin, followed by Pat Swilling They were shut out in consecutive games in 1997 by the Panthers and the 49ers, when Ditka was coach, Abramowicz was OC, and Wuerffel was QB. They shut out the Jets in '92 and again in '95.
Again good questions. I could have used a little more time to answer those last few. Hard to focus on it at work.
OK, a couple of defensive questions for you. I'll leave them up until later tonight so you have time to think. 1. What's the Saints record for most interceptions in a game (team, as opposed to individuals). 2. What two players share the record for most defensive touchdowns, by either interception or fumble return? 3. I'm not positive about this one, but I'll throw it out there: Rickey Jackson joined the Saints in '81; Sam Mills, Vaughn Johnson and Pat Swilling in '86. They made up the Dome Patrol. Who was the last player to hold a starting linebacker position for the Saints before those four established themselves as the starters?
Man, the Dome Patrol. What a core of LB. Voted the #1 LB core of all time (NFL Videos: Top Ten Linebacking Corps: Jim Mora's Saints), though Rickey and Pat Swilling usually played the down position on the line to rush the QB. Not sure where you're going with question 3 but I presume you want Jack Del Rio. He, Whitney Paul, Rickey Jackson, Scott Pelluir, and Glenn Redd made up our LB core in 85.
2: Has to be Darren Sharper. Not sure any other Saint had more than one or two TDs ever. Who is the 2nd? As far as question 1 ... haven't got a clue ... how about 5.
I think Del Rio was shipped out by Phillips (which I thought was a bad move when it happened. He was a playmaker). Actually, the guy I'm thinking about was James Haynes. He started along with Jackson, Mills and Johnson in early '86 before Swilling eventually beat him out. Again, going from memory, I could be wrong. That video link.....is that the one with the yahoo from Pittsburgh at the end, who says the Dome Patrol was nothing because they never won a Super Bowl?
1. 5 is not correct, though we did have 5 in a game once (at Philly, '91). 2. Sharper has 3. The record is 4.
