I agree Smoke should have been out there more, but on that last call, the ump called it and literally ran out of the stadium. He was ready to leave, so he ended the game. That swing was no where near being around. Tigers screwed themselves tonight. Allowed the bases to get loaded without a hit or a walk (hit batter and 2 errors).
possibily the worst post i have ever read. Jim is a great announcer and when somebody makes a mistake it should be talked about. You have no problem saying that RP should have ran it out but the call should have never been made. If you dont swing a ball in the dirt with 2 strikes it should never be a questionable situation. How can you compare a pass interfence call in the first half of a football game with a game ending strike 3 ball in the dirt. YOu did not make one decent point in that whole post.
I do not know. maybe someone else respond and clarify if that is the rule or not. I am still confused about it. :thumb:
No that is not the rule. The barrel of the bat has to cross the plate for it to be called a strike. His hands could hit the pitcher if he could reach that far, as long as the barrel does not come around past the plate.
Hey Kteam, dont you think if Blake tweaked his shoulder that we would have all heard about it. Just trust me, he did not re-injure his shoulder. Im starting to believe that Smoke is just a dumbass.
If Smoke actually sat our 4th best hitter b/c of a lefty match up... then yes, he is borderline mentally retarded... I talked to a friend of mine who is good friends with Blake and his shoulder is fine... :dis:
I dont understand his coaching sometimes. Right handed batters face right handed pitchers almost every day out. What is the big deal about a lefty facing a lefty, especially when he is one of our best hitters. Just stupid if you ask me. Maybe if the guy in there was just as good but it was Will Harris who is barely at .200
Starting Will Harris over Blake Gill in the regional may be one of the all time bonehead moves by a coach. Smoke went with righties vs lefties matchup, which normally is the right thing to do if the numbers support it. But look at the numbers of Gill and W. Harris ... Gill is hitting .354 and Harris is .238 vs lefties this year. I can understand starting Stewart and Hollander over Sprowl and Hebert, as Smoke has done this all year long. But sitting Gill was nuts!
Yes the call against RP was questionable, but other mroe stupid and important things happened in the game that caused us to lose. One major factor was swinging at a lot of bad pitches. It's like the batters didn't figure out we were going to get changeuped to death until the end. The hit batters problem just makes me speechless. I would of preferred to see English, but that's me. Also, Greg Smith was throwing an awful lot of pitches on the outside of the plate for some reason. The Gill/W. Harris thing is obvious and unbelievable. Hopefully Mesty can shut the demons down today and Dirks has a career game tonight.
