Hype in Dallas for La'el building after a great first preseason game despite being on the list or not.
According to reports, former LSU Tiger Kwon Alexander has been promoted to starting middle linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kwon Alexander has been a pleasant surprise for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. During his short time with the team, he has impressed teammates and coaches with both his football instincts and incredible work ethic. Now, it appears that Alexander has taken over the Buccaneers starting middle linebacker job. The announcement comes just days after the former LSU Tiger delivered an impressive performance during his first NFL preseason game. During a showdown against former teammate Danielle Hunter and the Minnesota Vikings, Alexander recorded four tackles, all in the second quarter. Head coach Lovie Smith, who knows a thing or two about talented linebackers from his days coaching Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs with the Chicago Bears, took note. “He was outstanding,” Smith told the Tampa Bay Times. “Made a couple of rookie mistakes, but beyond that, a good start for him.” While Alexander has been turning heads since joining the Buccaneers, the report that he has taken over the starting middle linebacker job is somewhat surprising. The team had signed veteran middle linebacker Bruce Carter this offseason to start at the position, and if Alexander were to break into the starting lineup, it appeared he would be doing so on the outside. At LSU, Alexander was an impact player from Day 1, earning a starting job as a true freshman. He made 23 starts for the Tigers throughout his collegiate career, compiling a total of 156 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. As a junior in 2014, he emerged as a leader of one of the best defenses in the nation, en route to being named First Team All-SEC. Whether or not he manages to maintain the starting job throughout the preseason, it has become evident that he is going to be a major part of the Buccaneers’ plans in 2015. For a team that is loaded with young talent, the decision to make Alexander a starter could have tremendous benefits in the long run.
Good for Kwon but dammit he would look a lot better in purple and gold at LSU instead of in those terrible Bucs uniforms.
Matt Flynn now taking Geno's place, a punch to the Jaw gets him back on an NFL team...Matt with the Jets, best of luck.
