lsu has a much smaller student body than several schools mentioned above with great facilities and great fball &bball programs. Tx, Michigan, UCLA---half the students = half the fans = half the $$$. probably even less than that because the avg LSU grad probably makes less.

to have an elite program it would take a GREAT coach (sorry cjb) that would take La talent consistently far in the tourney and stick around. to get that you'd need $$$ (not gonna happen) or get lucky with an LSU guy.

Well, tonight LSU played Temple here in Baton Rouge. Originally, LSU was scheduled to be playing in Vegas this weekend. Due to the economic losses during the past football season (losing the ASU home game mainly), the trip was cancelled and Temple was added to the home baseball schedule.

We can all go back and look, but I read the spirit of your posts to pretty much say LSU had all the money in the world to pay top dollar for a coach and go after Mark Few. But, if I got that wrong and you're clarifying it, then there you go. As for the money offered Saban, I wouldn't say I know for sure, but yes, LSU pays Miles less, but aren't his assistants getting more? I'm not sure the money for Saban is available money. It was just what the school was willing to patch together in a yeoman's effort to keep him.

As other posters have noted, the money is not just "there" for basketball without the ancillary support (e.g., fans coming out and packing the PMAC every night, and the overall success of the program as a whole, LSU basketball on TV, better ancillary sponsorship) to go after a Coach K type coach, right now.

In any case, the real "fans" need to go out and support this team now, game in and game out. They are watching SEC championship caliber basketball. :geauxtige

You make some fair points. Although, I think the student body at UCLA is comparable to LSU's, around 30K (though UCLA is a more high profile school, no doubt). Texas and Michigan are much larger. But, it's not just student bodies. It's a passion for basketball. UCLA has tremendous history and passion. Texas, not as much. Michigan has been there and has history.

I'll also say, I've ALWAYS been in support of LSU going after a GREAT coach, but I'm REALISTIC about what that will take. A lot more $$, a lot more support from the fans, community, alumni, and passion from the AD. I think Brady has shown that he can and has rebuilt this program, and we should support him in his years where he now operates from a foundation of strength. These next few years, with his class of 2003 and 2005, are the best years to judge his coaching abilities.

I think for the bashers, who want Brady gone, I see two realistic scenarios. (A) If Brady just outright lets the program turn around for the worse (i.e., we're not competing for SEC west championships, we're sub 500 in the SEC), I think the best LSU can do is go after an "up and comer" sort of mid-major guy (e.g., picking off a Bruce Pearl from UMil-Wis, picking off a hot assistant for an established guy... would I make a run at Johnny Dawkins? Hell yes.), because that's what the administration wants to pay (at that time). (B) If Brady continues to win, compete for SEC championships, fans come out, and he continues to miss the elusive prize of sweet 16s, elite 8s, final 4s, there may be some momentum to make a switch, and try to go after a top tier, established coach. I do agree that "getting lucky with a LSU guy" is also an option in either case, but I'm not sure who that LSU guy is that's coaching right now. Ricky Blanton and Johnny Jones are coaching, but are these guys better? I've made mention to Randy Livingston before, but he's a young, smart NBA point guard, with no coaching experience (yet). So, I'm not sure that's an avenue, unless people with better knowledge about LSU alumni have someone in mind.

In either case, I don't think Brady's going anywhere for a few years. And, if it's option A, I'm not sure the AD's (or people on this board for that matter) are truly educated enough to KNOW for sure that guy is going to be an improvement. For option B to happen, alot more $$ and passion needs to be there.

So, enjoy the ride folks! Bring back the faith and PACK the PMAC! :geauxtige :bball: :champs:

Okay I showed up after being out of town this week. We got a solid win at Vandy on Wednesday and it will be hard to keep this team from 20 wins in the regular season. Having said that we face a couple of tough teams in KY and USC over the next 5 days. A split with these two puts us at 21-8 heading into the SEC tournament. (thats assuming we blast the rebs on senior day at the PMAC)

I still contend we could/will be in trouble when teams stop DMitch. It's a long season and we still don't have another legitimate 3 ball shooter although Tasmin has he stretches when he can knock them down.

Today's game will be tough with Morris inside and Sparks outside. Let's see how this story ends....:geauxtige

So when I start by saying, where is all the money we were going to pay Saban, I am really saying we have all the money in the world? You are really dumb if you think this. It is saying we were going to bump a coach up 500-800k. With the money that we saved there, why cant we get a high profile coach. So you are wrong.
