All I know is I was on the field when Matt hit Skyler for a TD against Georgia and a 747 at full thottle was a whisper in comparison..... I don't think being in the stands you get the full effect. Try being a QB calling an audible from the north endzone on 3rd and short.
I might be wrong Tirk, but I think if you get banned you are not able to click on threads. I got banned on the Canes board like this one, and I could not even get on the start up page.
Gotta throw my 2 cents in here. I have had the honor of being in Tiger Stadium numberous times including the "Earthquake" game, and have actually been to Jordan-Who Cares stadium, most recently the 31-7 loss we were handed there. The first comment I have always made is that Auburn is Tiger Stadium at that level just above mute. They basically were having their way with us and I still could hear myself talking to my buddy, who is an Auburn fan. Anyone who says Death Valley isn't THE loudest obviously has only gone to a day game or none at all.
Well they don't have the press blowing smoke up their ass this preseason as they were in 2003, so what else can they talk about?
Last season, I had a post of mine deleted from that board. The thread was about LSU (after we went to 5-0, ranked #6) fans talking about possibly winning the NC. Naturally, we were condescendingly berated and called fools. I posted something along the lines of: "Please give us LSU fans a break. We're very excited about our football team this year. And we're enjoying our #6 ranking--we're almost ranked as highly as you were before the season started." That post was deleted, but the obscene responses to it were not. I was called every dispicable, female-related name in the book--along with a healthy dose of "corndog" thrown in. I've haven't posted there much since then, but I lurk there for SEC gossip--and to chuckle at their collective hatred of all things LSU. Before our game with them last year, one of their threads was entitled: What do you like on your corndog. I responded, "Auburn Tiger blood." Surprisingly, that wasn't deleted.
Haha you hit a raw nerve no doubt Stacy. "Ooooooo we were supposed to be a GREAT team competing for the NC. Everyone TOLD US so. Whhaaaaaaahhhhh."
Winners talk about football. Losers complain about Tiger Stadium myths, "classless" fans, and crooked recruiting. Some of them are obsessed with weiners. They keep sniffing around my corndog . . . kind of creepy.
the crystal football that we have is not a myth, and i will take a crystall football over being the loudest stadium anyday. we will let our crystal football do the deafening screaming instead of the fans
A few personal notes on the SEC Venues: I've been to all of the sites except for Vandy, USC and Arkansas and they are all louder than most college stadiums I've been to elsewhere. The one that surprised me the most was UK, there fans are great and even though they are usually bad to avg. they get into the games and are pretty loud. Florida Field was the loudest of the other programs, I was there when Dalton Hilliard made a couple of great runs and we beat them but they stayed pretty loud the entire game and were fun as they liked to talk a little smack and fun with it. The next loudest fans were UGA and their redneck fans are the biggest pain in the butts ever but the rest are good. The barking gets very old though. The second loudest was really Starkville as I was there in the cowbell days and man, when half the stadium has those things you get a ringing in your ears that doesn't go away for hours. Of course they were had a pretty good tema back then and beat us with that Bond guy at QB and some very good, fast WR's. They were also a fun group. Next loudest was Bama IMO, and I had a ball everytime I've been there, twice in Brmingham and this past season at Bryant-Denny. Auburn I've been to twice and we won both Times. I was there for the fire game and once way back when when we ran a half back pass on the first play of the game with Gilbert throwing a TD. They were louder back then then they were for the fire game. Ole Miss was not loud at all as the stadium was small and not filled the 2 times I was there and we beat them both times. Neyland is a grand experience but I've never been around such a quiet place with over a hundred thousand people in attendance except for Michigan. Most of the Tennessee fans are older and go strictly to watch the game and sit on their hands until they clap politely like they are at a play. Of course I've been to many a game at Tiger Stadium and I think the loudest I ever heard was the Notre Dame game in 72 or 73. The stadium was completely full 2 hours before kickoff and erupted when ND came out for their pre-game warm-ups and never quieted down really. It is still the game that I most treasure seeing and I'm sure the players at Notre Dame can still vividly hear the noise. We are much louder than all other stadiums I've been too. Do we have a home field advantage, yes we do but in saying that the most important thing for a home field advantage is the team itself and n the nineties we simply had some bad teams that wouldn't have won no matter what. Hell, the advantage probably saved us from having much worse seasons in a few of those years, that's the way I look at it. The most telling home-field stat in college football is Miami's record streak at over 50 games I think, they didn't even sell out most of their games during the streak but their teams were awfully good; which tells me the team is much more important than the crowd but the crowd can make a difference when teams are closely matched.
