Thoughts on the NCAA's ban on Post Season sporting events in S.C.

?

If you were the supreme ruler of S.C....what would you do

  1. Should the State of S.C. take the confederate flag down from the CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL?

  2. Tell the NCAA to shove it where the sun dont shine

  3. Perhaps move the flag somewhere else in hope of pleasing the few people that it offends

Dr. King is not honored with a holiday because he was a paragon of virtue and a standard bearer for fidelity. He preached a message which needed to be heard in spite of the overwhelming opposition to his beliefs, not unlike a certain individual a couple thousand years ago..

To my knowledge, Louisiana nor LSU officially supports the confederate flag. It's a non-issue with respect to LSU. The NCAA, like any business, can choose where to hold NCAA events based on such issues. People who support the confederate flag is on the losing end of this battle. I'm not saying that is right, I'm just saying that is the way it is these days.

Now, if the NCAA (or LSU) would somehow penalize LSU b/c some of its fans fly the flag on campus, then I'd be against that policy. I believe people have the constitutional right to fly the flag anywhere. Don't think the NCAA or LSU will go there.

It is an issue with LSU in the fact that they are now even trying to go as far as banning all post season play...not just predetermined games like Basketball and football. This means that they will more than likely take away Baseball tournaments from either Clemson, USC, or any other school in the state from hosting a regional or super regional because those sites are not predetermined. Which i dont care...but it would help me out if LSU played here so i didnt have to drive so far to see them. I know...selfish!!

Sounds like that would potenitally benefit LSU since it will eliminate 2 schools from consideration, giving LSU a better chance of hosting?

I understand how it would hurt you.

But as I said, the confederate flag issue is a losing one for its supporters. Majority of americans simply oppose it. We now live in a politically correct world.

They should just move the flag.

Confederate Flags are very appropriate at Battlefield parks, confederate cemetaries and memorials around the south. The are appropriate at displays like in Galvez Plaza in BR, where every national flag that has flown over Baton Rouge is displayed (ten). It is appropriate at the Confedretae Veterans monument on North Boulevard.

But flying the Confederate flag over the state capitol makes no more sense than flying the British or the Spanish flags. It is an anachronism and inappropriate for that reason alone, regardless of its offense to much of the state's population.

They should fly it on Confederate Memorial Day and perhaps Robert E. Lee's birthday, as I do. Otherwise they are representatives of the United States of America and they should fly nothing competing with the Stars and Stripes for attention.

But the flag has been moved from the SC state capitol building to a Confederate War Memorial. This was the compromise. The NAACP then decided the compromise was no good and the memorial had to be taken down.

Then fugg 'em. There is no constitutional right to protect one from being offended.

Surely the NCAA has violated some form of anti-trust laws by this action. I have no expertise in this area, but something tells me they shouldn't be able to legally do this.

my argument is not this specific issue, but where else does the ncaa go and on what issues that could eventually effect lsu if they keep mandating things like this.

in oklahoma, there is a flag plaza in front of the capital that flies every flag that has ever flown over the state long before statehood. one of those flags is - was - the confederate flag. it had to be taken down because of the same opposition. it seems to me that in SC the state actually tried to find a compromise, but the compromise ended up not being good enough. i always thought that in compromise, both sides gave a little.

i am a flaming liberal and i think the ncaa is sticking it's nose in where it doesn't belong.
