Good point Turbo If you think about what it would cost had we gone to the Rose Bowl. (Airline/Hotel/Meals/Car Rental/Pricey game tickets) Compared to that, 1,000/ticket for the Sugar Bowl is a relative bargain.
Wow you managed to get away with a wedding for 10 Grand? My bar tab alone was more than that! I totally agree with what you wrote. I don't care what it took, there was not going to be any stopping me from being at this game, because I do not want to look back and regret not being at a historic moment in my football team's history. Plus I will be there for 4 days total, so this will be my vacation this year. I paid $1500 for 2 tix and 3 nights at the Marriot on Canal. I would have paid just as much if I went on a cruise or something. It's all about each persons economic situation. Icing on the cake: my inlaws decided to pay the price of this whole thing as my Christmas gift God bless my inlaws!
In response to shaqazoolu, I have to say, that it depends on what you would consider permanent. To me, attending a national championship in my backyard, and observing da tigahs battling it out with what many analysts have considered one of the most dominant college football teams ever, win or lose, is a memory that will never be forgotten. That's what I would consider permanent. Don't pass up an opportunity you will kick yourself in the ass later for just because you had to eat a few more ham sandwiches instead of eating out. I will be maxing out the credit cards and plan on being there. GEAUX TIGERS!!
I'm with most of you. I just bought some discount plane tickets (which I now can put towards a game ticket). I fly in for 1 game a year since I moved to California 17 years ago. To me paying a little more (although not $1000/ticket) is worth a once in a lifetime event. A weekend in Vegas cost that much. I just cancelled my trip to Vegas. To me this memory, win or lose is worth missing the semi-annual Vegas run. Still with no tickets but I am hopeful of landing one at a reasonable price.
prices are so ridiculously overregulated. venues stupidly sell tickets for far below their market value, creating a really annoying secondary market. the sugar bowl should raise ticket prices by a lot and then we wouldnt have to deal with ebay and each other and could just deal with the box office. and scalping tickets being illegal drives me crazy. i often buy scalped tickets at shea stadium and i have to hide from the cops when buying as if i am buying drugs. i hate when the government prevents me from freely exchanging goods and services with other citzens. venues need to get smart and they could make much much more money, and prevent us from having to deal with the risks of scalped ticket (counterfeits, etc). people might whine about high prices, but its not like the prices in the secondary market are cheap. and it makes a mockery of the law when ebay sells a t shirt for 1200 that comes with 2 free sugar bowl tickets. i cant understand why for some reason we cant apply normal free market rules to tickets. instead we have stupid laws, foolish venues, and an annoying black market.
I am capable of spending about $2000 for Sugar Bowl Tickets, but I would never spend more than $300/ticket b/c it is just not worth it in my opinion when you can watch it on a new plasma TV or sitting in a Pro LSU bar. I would much rather spend the $2000 on getting gifts for my wife, take a 7 day trip to the Carribean, or invest it. After watching a game that could you $500 dollars an hour is just not a good investment, b/c the only thing I would have in return is memories, a hangover, pictures and be one of 70,000 people that witnessed it. If my ticket broker does not come through, I will just be among the thousands of LSU fans watching the game on the tube. Or I could look at like a vacaction and buy into a package deal, but I would still rather go to the Bahamas.
