fine, go ahead and cheat on your taxes, but i dont see why that is a justification for being against immigration. you can be the biggest cheater in the universe, so what, doesnt mean you should not allow immigrants to work. two separate issues.
because i dislike immigrants and do not want them here. matter of fact we should start shipping all illegal immigrants out immediately.
understandable. i like latino immigrants. i would be happy to send arabs and jews and everyone who doesnt speak spanish or german back home. but i am happy to have latinos aorund.
You probably wouldn't be so happy to have Latinos around if you lived in Texas, where English is becoming a less prevalent language here. I had movers who didn't understand a word I spoke to them when I moved into my house. The owner of the moving company was paying them very little, and they weren't paying taxes. I think the government is conceding that they can't/won't do anything about letting Mexicans cross the border, but if they're going to be here, they should pay taxes. Of course, that opens them up to minimum wage requirements, etc., so it's a bad situation for employers (or so the argument will go).
unlikely, there are more puerto ricans in the new york area than there are in puerto rico. everywhere i go i hear spanish, as well as literlly any other language you can think of. i dont mind. i like spanish and i like hearing it as much as possible.
I voted yes because immigration made this country great. The threats of a Spanish speaking USA or overblown by the media. An imigrants native language is lost by the third generation. For example there were more newspapers writeen in Dutch than English in the midwest as recently as the 1920s. I think our immigration laws are much to harsh and that is why illegal immigration is such an issue. Furthermore I think companies like Wal-Mart should have to pay illegals the same amount they pay Americans and give them the same benefits. That way any incntive the companies have to hire illegals is lost.
Immigrants making lower wages also keeps the price of those goods down. Such as the cost of your roof being done, your tomatoes at the grocery store and such. However, all immigrants, legal or not, should be required to speak English. California shouldn't have to offer drivers liscence tests in 13 languages, Street signs in Texas shouldn't be in 2 languages. English is the OFFICIAL language of the USA - learn it, or don't reap the benefits. It's not the governments job to accomodate you if you don't learn the language.
Wal-mart and such don't have to pay illegals the same, simply because they aren't accountable for it. If the government could cost-effectivly keep tabs on this, they would. If Walmart is required to pay & give benefits to immigrants, then immigrants should be required to pay taxes. And if they are paying taxes, then they government knows who they are and where they are. So, they either need to be citizens, or kicked out.
wrong. there is no official language. if you want a country that protective and defensive over its culture and language, move to france. you dont like spanish, dont speak it.
