Have any of you ever checked out midfield and the real "EYE". They have a wire mesh under the sod ... for easy replacement I guess ... the variety of grass used in Tiger stadium appears to be a Bermuda ... I had my maniac nephew get a chunk for me after a big win a few years ago and noticed the colored grass (purple and gold and black) was colored all the way to the roots ... really deep ... like they used a damned pressurized sprayer to do it and soaked the hell outta the grass with paint ... now that Bermuda goes dormant ... turns brown and is a real pain in the off-season I'd like to know how they can keep it looking so well with the traffic ... and mowing. Or hey ... do they just replace the sod 2 or 3 times a season "IN THE EYE". This sounds like a question for resident LSU expert TE.
That sh*t is tight! As a Bamafan first I must say LSU's "eye" is awesome followed UGA's "G" and our script "A" just looks lame, no color to it.
How do the groundskeepers give the gridiron it's distinctive look ? The turf alternates between green and a darker green every 5 yards. I'm assuming that different types of sod are used in each 5 yard section. I'm curious what those types are used. If anyone knows, please let me know.
Trey ... I'm almost positive that its one type of grass (tifton bermuda 419). The reason its looks two colors is the way they mow it, causing it to lay in opposite directions every 5 yds. Have you noticed all the fancy designs at Alex Box ? .... all done by the magic of the mower. Hope this helps
If that guy wants to go into business doing lawns like that for all of us who want one he would make a killing.
It reminds me of a LSU documentary I once saw on PBS called "Men of LSU". They had some crazy characters, and this guy would make the cut. That is quite a job and I bet his backyard is popular all season long. He can't stop there. I bet before it is over, he not only has posts but also adds a scoreboard.
