Be aware that I do not advocate simply leaving the slackers and troublemakers behind. That will just lead to them becoming part of the criminal class or homeless vagrants which does none of us any good. I advocate splitting them off into separate curriculums that are better designed to get them into an occupation and instill them with some kind of work ethic by making a more practical solution to their situations. Not everyone is cut out for college. Some are not even cut out for high school. But if we can redirect the lowest common denominators into an education program that offers them a realistic path to a job, some responsibility, and financial security, that is better for everyone. Far better than for them to struggle and fail trying to keep up with college-prep kids or to drop out and become a professional thug and spend half their life in state and parish prison.
anyone but the kids. id rather blame the govt or teachers erroneously anyway, they can handle it better than a 7yr old. but, see, my point is that fault doesnt matter. just fix it. the republican ideal of adhering to a free market philosophy with everything isnt the best way to educate the masses. survival of the fittest is "heartless". do you not think that this describes the education views of a large % of republicans. "kick the kids out." "let them fail." "lets build our own school"
The Democrats don't give a damn about the quality of public education. They are only concerned with how to get the working stiffs to pay for it.
You keep crying about kids being blamed when clearly I said nothing of the kind. I laid it at the feet of parents, not kids. Please make your case without twisting mine. Because you are looking at fault as a matter of politics, which is all about the blame game. Fault in this case is critical, because until you identify where the engine breaks down, you cannot fix it. If your carburetor leaks, checking the tires doesn't help much does it? You must identify the root of the problem, and while govt and school systems are inherently flawed, no system can overcome the lack of parenting that exists today. Schools are built to teach, not parent. Kind of like using our army to be policemen. Doesn't really work out too well. And yet, it's the democratic ideal of nurturing and rewarding failure in school that prevails today. If our lower schools were run like our universities, success would be fostered and alternatives to higher education would be a must. Red suggested this very thing and it is a phenomenal plan. But it will be democrats that block this, not republicans.
maybe. but it shows the weakness of your position if you cant defend it, only point out that the other side is crappy too.
I adopted Red's plan, except I would put the troublemaker's in boot camp for a while. For motivation.
