Very great point, man that really was the closest game of the year. I really think Florida could be special next year, we will see.

Agree, you cannot abandon the basics. The Auburn game plan was what everyone thought could beat us, 2-5-5 stack or some variation. But all the best pass rushers and DBs in the world are going to get steam-rolled when you line it up and run it down their throat.

I am not sure there is a rank of importance of positions beyond QB. There is QB, then everyone else is second Imo. You have to be able to do it all at least well, and most things great to when championships.

I think the debate, what we all see, is great offence wins championships now with current football rules.

    Great thread, great post

Great points one through five. I'll add this!

Teams with secondaries like LSU cannot be beaten when a pass rush can be dialed up sending LBs and Safeties to knock the crap out of a QB. Secondary remains TOP PRIORITY because if you ain't got SD corners you ain't got shit. Pelini back gives us a beastial pass rush scheme to annihilate Ehlinger, Trask, Nix, Jones, whoever QBs GA, and Sunshine!

We going to the show again because nobody in the SEC (I'll wait on GA to see) will stop us in the first 12 games. GA has bought a championship this year with all the things they've done behind the scenes and they are our biggest SEC threat.

LB will be a critical position in our 4-2-5 schemes to be hybrid enough to take on TEs and stop the run. We've never been short on speed and athleticism and it's gonna be a great year in 2020. In Myles We Trust!

My biggest excitement about Pelini returning is Mullen owned Aranda. More talented Florida offenses under Mullen didn't give Pelini nearly the same troubles.

Probably exactly right, but I wouldn't count out Florida in the East. They are going to be a beast next year.

TBH I don't see much change in next year to this current year. Few teams might end up switching places, but LSU, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn will be the 5 teams in the mix.

Yup. I am really hoping TAMU has another bad year and jettisons Jimbo. I honestly think that if they give Jimbo enough time, he’s going to elevate to that level, although it might take another year or two. But the SECs going to look the same again next year, with us being the somewhat wild card with all this turnover.

Dont agree at all with your second point. The reason you can have a great pass rush is because you have a talented secondary and more importantly lockdown corners.

Agreed their are only 5 teams that really have a shot at winning it all right now.

    LSU
    Clemson
    Alabama
    Ohio State
    Georgia

Most important players on defense right now are your pash rush specialists.

We saw early in the season we struggled with getting to the QB.

Down the stretch healthy we gave the last 4 QBs we faced their worst QB efficiency rating of the entire season (Mond, Fromm, Hurts, Lawrence).

    Pass rush was the difference.

So how do you account for our lack of success in pass defense this year? We had the best corners in the country, and our pass defense was middle of the road.
