It's that time of year folks. First off, let's just put Alabama and Clemson into the playoffs at this point. That leaves two spots. Alabama must beat Georgia. Notre Dame losing to USC knocks them out and gives LSU double the chance of making it (2 spots available vs 1). Lets assume Notre Dame beats USC. So what needs to happen is the Big 10, Pac 12 and Big 12 champs must end up with 2 losses. The winner of this Texas/Iowa State team will face Oklahoma. They must win that game. WVU plays Oklahoma next week, thus 2 chances for Oklahoma to lose. Washington State has a legit shot to lose to in state rival Washington next week plus they could easily lose their championship game. Now Michigan. Michigan could lose to Ohio State and then Ohio State lose the championship game. Or Michigan lose that game after beating Ohio State. My guess is Ohio State stands a much better shot at getting upset in the title game as they are the decidedly weaker team as opposed to Michigan. So I'd pull for an Ohio State upset next week. The West Virginia upset was huge today. So here is my scenario: Big 12 West Virginia beats Oklahoma. Texas beats West Virginia in the Big 12 CG. The best team from the Big 12 is a 2 loss Oklahoma who didn't even play in the title game. Pac 12 Washington State loses to Washington. Best possible Pac 12 team is a 2 loss Washington who is currently ranked 18th. A 2 loss Washington State who didn't play in their title game is done. Big 10 Michigan loses to Ohio State. Ohio State loses the Big 10 title game. Slight concern Michigan may stay ahead us, but not likely. OR Michigan beats Ohio State but is then upset in the title game. This scenario is actually better as the loss for Michigan would look much worse. No way Michigan stays ahead of us in that scenario. If USC upsets Notre Dame, we are going to make the playoffs. Have fun watching the games.
It's a nice dream. I am a bit worried though, even if that all happens. They would still have to pick a 2 loss lsu over 2 loss big 10 or big 12 Champ. .. Plus if everyone has 2 losses, they could reward an undefeated UCF.
its going to be interesting even if we don't make it/ Notre Dame should have to join a conference so they play same number of games to get in. that's like Bama sliding in twice without having to play in sec championship. That aint right but somehow the other conferences just lay down and take it.
To be fair, they do play a pretty tough schedule... Still...they should have to schedule 13 games if they want a shot at the playoffs, though.
As I’ve posted and generated a thread about, I don’t think it’s that far fetched. A lot happens the next 2 weeks. If we do make the CFPs, and get hot, look out.
