I'm not critiscizing the 350 million, thats a pretty good amount (although still not as much as Germany or Australia), but the 35 million was ridiculous. When you consider how much we spend per day in Iraq (not trying to start anything, just saying), was 35 million for probably the worst natural disaster ever reasonable? You can say that they didn't know at the time how bad it would be, but everybody know that once disease started to become a factor that the death toll would easily go over 100,000.

So what, did we bend under pressure? C'mon now, who cares that it took a day to increase the amount, once the destruction had been calculated the donations drastically increased. Give your country a little credit. And while your at it, tabulate total donations to every world catastrophe (Aids, poverty etc.) then come back and talk to me.

since you're ready to pony up for the taxpayers, how much have you given jvincent?

we know the US just prints money and it doesn't matter where it comes from.

BTW, even though we all know that the Hollywood liberal elite tends to shy away from fashionable causes (heavy sarcasm), I'm just left wondering: where IS Hollywood on all of this? So far, the only big name I've seen come forward is Sandra Bullock, ponying up $1 mil out of her own pocket (I
knew there was a reason I was in love with this lady). Unless, of course, you count Jackie Chan and some other Asian stars rerecording their
rendition of "We Are The World" (eerily reminiscent of Krusty the Clown and Sting recording "We're Sending Our Love Down the Well").

Man I'm sick and tired of hearing about all the poor people in indochina..

You know what you call 100,000+ muslim Indoneasians at the bottom of the ocean??
A good fu*king start. (adapted from some lawyer joke.)

I'm not giving one cent of my money to someone who in two years is going to strap on a suicide belt and blow up a hotel full of westerners. Let them rot for all I care we have enough problems here to deal with.

Very harsh. Do you even have a soul left? I have no sympathy for suicide bombers, but not all of those people are like that. And what about the children? Oh, let me guess. They're just going to grow up and be suicide bombers, right? Suicide bombings are going to continue to happen whether you donate your insignificant amount or not. Unbelieveable that people still think like this :dis:

I know this is not directed at me, but personally, I have donated to the Red Cross. I'm not going to mention the amount because it's irrelevant, but if everyone donates something, it will help. My only concern is that this "aid" money is indeed being spent as it was intended.

There 3.5 million homeless and 5 million children living in destitute in the United States, but we are sending US tax dollars to a foreign country. Some residents in FL are still living in tents after the natural disasters that hit our country. Yet we're still sending US tax dollars that could help to a foreign nation.

I have a soul but it bleeds for my countrymen and fellow Americans first. You don't feed, cloth and shelter you neighbors when your own family goes without.

I agree. There's no reason we can't do both. For some reason, we ignore those people here in the states. I don't know why, but I agree with you on this point.
