When it comes to taxes the simplest solution is best for everyone except tax accountants.

This is only true for some of the rich. Other people got rich by being stock brokers and whatever else that added absolutely no value or jobs to our country and in fact are in some ways responsible for the economy's decline.

Who did the stock brokers (vague generalization) provide jobs to?

every person who is earning/spending money is providing jobs. it doesnt matter if you happen to think they are providing a useless service. other people pay for the service. people who need the service in the same way you think you need whatever services you buy. the broker is valuable in the same way that your mechanic is valuable.

if a person earns money, they are doing something right because somebody is paying them. if they are making money on investments, that is also a great value to the economy, because investments are incredibly important.

Okay... Very unlike me, but I don't feel like getting into it.

My opinion: Just because someone makes money does not mean that they provide a valuable product or service to the country.

    Agree to disagree.

A wealthy stock broker got that way by making money for his clients. That's the service that he provides.

There's a lot of rich envy on this site.

do you have a stockbroker? do you pay him? are you aware that other people do have brokers and do you understand why they pay them? when you want to buy stock do you want to place an ad on craigslist looking for someone to sell at a price you like? you understand why a market-maker is valuable to buyers and sellers?

when you earn money on your investments, are you doing anything of value? if you started a business and i invested in it, wouldnt you feel like i was helping you? even if i made a profit without manufacturing anything? wouldnt my investment help you and the economy, even though i actually did nothing but shuffle my money around?

I tend to agree. It's not the best example. The ones who provide no service are the ones who inherited vast wealth, the idle rich who don't work at all and let their money swell under favorable tax laws. They are making huge piles and not "trickling down" much at all. The gap between the rich and the middle class grows rapidly.

There a lot of disgust with the rich on this site. The envy comes from the few butt-kissers of the rich.
