I've always wondered how poor people get so fat?

Cheap food is not particularly healthy food. Lots of white bread, gravy, rice, beans, and fat meat.

Salads, fruits and vegetables are cheap. As long as McDonalds, BK and Wendy's accept food stamps, the po folks will be fat.

Right.. It's got nothing to do with personal responsibility, ever. Ya know, my great grandmother was poor. I don't mean poor like city-folk poor. I mean poor like her house (shack) was insulated with flattened cardboard cartons nailed up on the inside of the walls. She ate white bread, gravy, lard, beans, rice, and fatty meat all her life. She also got guv'ment cheese and commodities for years and years. Unfortunately, she died at the young age of only 96, and weighed in at a whopping 120 lbs soaking wet. She only got to see Halley's comet 2 times.. It's not fair, I tell ya!

You sit there and say we assume that all poor people don't work, or don't want to work. And then you throw a generalization out there that's just as preposterous as the one you're so quick to attack. "It's the cheap poor people food that makes them fat!"...Whatever.

Well, what's good for the goose, my friend... You shouldn't assume that just because someone is "poor", that they eat cheaper food than you do. I've seen with my own eyes, many times over as a customer and as a cashier in my younger day, people buying the same name-brand crap you probably stuff your gob with. They buy that with the stamps (or card now days) and then they turn around and peel off a c-note from a roll, to pay for the rest of their non-food items (usually alcohol and cigs). When they're done, they put the money back in the Gucci bag, continue yapping to their friend of their iPhone, and get in their "poor people" car and drive off, happy as can be.

You always make a point to say how the more right-leaning folks around here are drinking cool-aid and kissing asses of the rich, yet you stand there with pitcher of a different flavor in hand, and lip to glass .. Just sayin.

you won't hear much of an argument from me, because i can't stand to see someone in line paying with food stamps texting on a new Iphone.

My thing is all these social programs i believe are a good thing, but they need to be revisited, and fixed. Because there are way too many people, who are just fine, who can work, and pay taxes, that don't. A generation of lazy ass people, who have been taught by their lazy ass parents, to sit on their ass and collect a check, when this country could be forcing these people to work on things like infrastructure, and fixing neighborhoods, etc.

I do agree with Red though, because lots of processed bad for you foods are cheap and easy.

I guess my whole point is, the poor in this country don't eat as cheap as many would like to think (though I'm sure some do). Also, that it's not the processed foods making them fat, it's lack of education about nutrition and eating 6 servings every time you sit down that does it.

Put it this way, poor people in this country generally aren't dying off because of malnutrition. They're dying of old-age, congestive heart failure, cancer, and the likes of... Same as the middle class and rich folks.

Good food is not expensive. That is the lie. We hardly bring anything processed into our house, and we all get three squares on about $350 bucks a month. For the price of a box of Jose Ole chicken quesadillas you can make time and half the amount of fresh quesadillas and have more chicken plus additional awesomness like onions and tomatoes. I know. I did the math.
