18 is for leadership and off the field intangibles whereas Patrick created 7 for playmakers on the field. Both having been created by players I find it odd to find issue with either.
18 seems cheapened by 7. Didn’t they proceed to add an offense defense 18 as well? Too much. I don’t feel strongly about it, just seems like too much.
'We' didn't invent it. It was started by the players and evolved from there. I don't have a problem with it, unless it goes to someone undeserving, like it apparently did this time. There is a certain logic to that approach, but I don't think a player is not going to play hard or give 110% if he's not wearing a specific number. It's seems to be an innocent player owned tradition which I don't think it's a very big deal that they do it.
