I don't understand how people like Blanco and Edwin Edwards and Frank Keating, etc., etc. can continue to get elected. Maybe Adolf Hitler was right when he said, "It is good for us that the people are so stupid." Okies and Coonasses never seem to learn their lesson! But then again, as I have said, there ain't much difference in any politician anymore. You think we can dig up ole Huey and clone him?
Let me ask a stupid question. What is the difference in the Chancellor and the President, and how do they rank in the hiearchy of the University?
If I'm not mistaken, the President (Dr. Jenkins) is responsible for the entire LSU system, including campuses in Eunice, Alexandria, Shreveport, etc. The chancellors are responsible for running the individual campuses (of which the BR campus is the main one and the largest - thus the importance of Chancellor Emmert's position).
I recognize that this issue could be a cause for concern. However, we won the freaking national championship in the freaking Sugar Bowl only a few freaking months ago. I still look forward to the future but I'm going to enjoy my permagrin for another 6 months. I might even pop the Sugar Bowl tape in tonight after the madness is over.
Ummmm... State Farm has been gone for awhile now. They just now got around to announcing it. The insurance laws are only one of many reasons they are leaving. Others are the facilities are outdated and they have new, state of the art facilities in Tulsa and Colombia, MO that are running at 50% and 40% capacity, the current facility is not really in a desirable area of town, Monroe is a shrinking city while Tulsa and Colombia are both growing quite rapidly, Monroe is the most racially divided city in the state, local taxes are out of hand. There isn't even high speed internet access at the Monroe Mid South facility. That is a failure on the part of State Farm and the City of Monroe. Too many problems that $30 million wouldn't solve. It was an opportunity to show she cared, that's all. State Farm made their decision a long time ago. Moving 800 employees, eliminating 400 jobs and a $55 million dollar payroll isn't something you on the spur of the moment and without working out all the logistics beforehand. It's going to take more than a forum full of chicken littles to convince me that Blanco is running off Emmert, a Tacoma, WA native and a University of Washington grad.
It's all just coincidence then, right? Emmert leaving has nothing to do with the educational budget being cut...After 8 years of protection and in some years, an increase in funding? Spare me...He may have been coming home...But it was a convenient move at a convenient time...
Coincidence? Call it what you want. If he is leaving for that reason, then my respect goes with him. The last time I looked at politics, freezes were not cuts, but what do I know? I guess my first priority is that the state does well and not LSU, the Saints or anything else. A budget needs to be balanced and everyone should share the burden. Blanco hasn't been here a year yet and people are already calling for policies a failure. That is the very definition of kneejerk. ...and I voted for Ewing and then Jindal in case you were wondering.
Bubble up, I'm with you. I'll get people in Lafayette to sign it. She didn't even win her home parish...
