If Miles stays with JJ as the starter, I am concerned what kind of identity this offense will take on? I will be pretty upset if the offense becomes more lethargic unlike the crisp offense under Lee. JJ seemed being able to produce some strong and accurate passes last night, being given more chances to throw the ball. But I didn't like his slow decision making in throwing the ball. It felt strange that JL's plays were like Jeffersons from last year. Maybe they are trying to test his running plays in game situations. Or maybe making him use his feet more instead of being a statue.
Well .. next weekend will tell the story. If Lee starts, then it was probably an academic issue ... if Jefferson starts, then indeed, the Bama game was the excuse CLM was waiting for to put his favorite back in as starter. .... .... and as I noted some time ago, proves he is a bigot. The JJ homers can say what they want, JJ didn't burn the world up against Bama. JJ accounted for just 3 points. No way of knowing if Lee himself couldn't have produced the same 3 points with a change in play calling strategy. OTOH .. I enjoyed watching JJ last night. I said in one of the previous threads I'd like to see what JJ could do, to see the improvement. He did look a bit improved on passing, and, I don't recall us being called for a delay of game.
oh I agree 100% and maybe they thought that would be about as easy as it gets I thought some running or quick read - let him relax and get into the flow he was done after that throw
Yup. He's got a strong arm and delivered some nice spirals. I was glad he also was aware of time limitations in one series and quickly spiked the ball.
We should have thrown the ball like bama did. Short screens and other safe , high percentage throws to quickly get the ball outside on the edges instead of throwing deep downfield.
What was the bigger punishment for Lee? Being benched for 3 quarters, or making him run the option once he finally got into the game?
Not real convincing. After Flynn left and Perilloux screwed the pooch our offense and the handling of QBs has been unimpressive. This was the first year where we had a truely balanced attack, and it has given us good results. If we disregard our true passing threat our offense will become one-dimensional again and we will sputter through the rest of the season. At least against solid teams. Maybe JJ has improved, but we didn't get to see that against Bama because Bama is very good and nothing was proved against the Hilltoppers - in fact our offense sputtered mostly in the first half. I'd like to see both play, with less of JJ running to give our RBs a chance to wear our opponent's D down. I like throwing a little bit of the running JJ attack in, but too much takes away from our RBs and a true passing attack that their D must respect.
It appeared to me that CLM was intentionally going against the norm last night: JJ was the passing QB JLee was the running QB Anyone else notice this? I'm thinking CLM was trying to throw off any tendencies that might be assumed when one QB or the other enters the game. IMHO, that would be a smart move.
