The concept is that these major companies could modernize and improve the efficiency of the Iraqi oil fields. Thus it would increase the available supply and drive down prices so we can drive our Hummers more cheaply.
You're gloating? Bush does and always has "got it right". He's the only one who does. Americans no longer have the stomach for war and Bush can't do what he knows needs to be done. If you think I'm wallowing in misery and sitting here thinking Pelosi and her gang are going to straighten things out, you've got me all wrong. I quit posting here because it's like talking to a dog.
If we don't need it why are the major oil companies looking to capitalize off it? The oil companies drilling in Iraq will get 75% of the profits until they meet operating expenses (which I'm sure they will milk that for all it's worth)....then after that they get 20% of the profit (10% more than normal deals). This is a bad deal for their economy and is conveniently getting pushed through the Iraqi court system by the US while the country is still in "turmoil" over the hanging.
You bet your ass. I've been right all along and you've been wrong. You've lost your friggin' mind. I challenege you to back this up with anything approaching evidence. Americans no longer have the stomach for gross incompetence by its president. Those same Americans support the war in Afghanistan which was against the rags who attacked us on 9/11 and has been run competently and effectively. I think it's because you got your ass handed to you every time you tried to debate the issues, which you don't understand very well.
Bottomline now is that there is no doubt that Al Quada is In Iraq as well as other countries. I do think it was the right thing to do because of several reasons: 1) Saddam didn't follow cease fire agreement 2) WMDs 3) Terrorist training camps in Iraq. Unfortunately I give Bush failing grades for the following: 1) Conservatism 2) War in Iraq We didn't secure the borders or stop Iran and Syria from entering Iraq and killing Americans, Iraqis and disrupting the new government of Iraq. The president and his advisors have failed with their strategy in Iraq. Why didn't Bush give this speech and they follow this plan 2 years ago. 3) Bush has also failed because our borders are wide open and the enemy can enter from there. Bush said he would protect this country, blah, blah, blah, Its all pointless if you don't have control of the borders! The DEMOCRATS and those that want to bring troops home are politicizing and sacrificing their country at ALL cost. The old argument about WMD's, etc are pointless because we are there now. Either we stay and win at all cost or we come home if we aren't willing to WIN and get the job done correctly. One things for sure: This country doesn't have the will power to fight wars politically or emotionally. If you don't believe me wait until something happens in Iran or Syria. Iran and Syria are funding and creating terrorists, Hamas, If we don't respond they will and we will pay another price down the road. WE won't have the will or strength to do the job!
No need to get personal*, Red. We disagree. I'm entitled to my opinion. I went to school. I can read. Nobody complains about the war in Afghanistan because no one is bombarded with news about American casualties there. It's a nice "clean" war. If Democrats winning elections is your standard for determining military victories, I guess the terrorists have defeated us and we can chalk it up as a loss and go home to prepare for next season. Unfortunately, it's not a game. We need to stay the course and finish what we started, only with military might and not partisan rhetoric. *Based upon the disgraceful attack on Condi Rice by Barbara Boxer, it appears that personal attacks are just the Dems' style.
I just want to hear you say this with a straight face ... we went to war b/c the U.S. wanted Exxon, BP and Shell to have all the Iraqi oil. Can you do it? ... remember, no laughing when you say it.
With Bush and Cheney running the show, anythings possible.... Heres are some of the main reasons why we invaded Iraq 1) WMD's -Where are they? 2) Iraq - Al Q link -9/11 commission says do not exist Its not like the US invaded Iraq and said...Oh #$% whats all this black stuff?...we all knew about it beforehand... VP Dick Cheney said in 1999 (when he was still running Halliburton, an oil services company) "the Middle East is the key to preventing the world running out of oil." - "On 18 March 2003, with the invasion imminent, Tony Blair proposed the House of Commons motion to back the war. "The oil revenues, which people falsely claim that we want to seize, should be put in a trust fund for the Iraqi people administered through the UN," he said. The United Kingdom should seek a new Security Council Resolution that would affirm... the use of all oil revenues for the benefit of the Iraqi people." That suggestion came to nothing. In May 2003, just after President Bush declared major combat operations at an end, under a banner boasting "Mission Accomplished", Britain co-sponsored a resolution in the Security Council which gave the US and UK control over Iraq's oil revenues. Far from "all oil revenues" being used for the Iraqi people, Resolution 1483 continued to make deductions from Iraq's oil earnings to pay compensation for the invasion of Kuwait in 1990." http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/article2132574.ece
You didn't answer the question. Probably b/c you couldn't say it with a straight face!:hihi: Of course oil is the primary reason we are interested in the middle east, but it's not the same as saying that's why we went to war. Two very different things. You either believe it or not ... I don't. Lack of oil (and lack of anything of value) is why the U.S., and the world, could care less about the problems in Africa. That's the reality of the world.
